The Birla Guest House (formally known as "Smt. Rukmani Devi Birla Mangal Bhawan") is right along the beach, and reasonably accessible (it's right along the coast, but the main entrance is on the rear side along a wasteland) - they have no signboards, but everyone knows the place. We went down to the beach to take bath in the sea, and could come back through a small gate on the front side, which has convenient shower rooms (conveniently for both genders) before we headed back to the room. The manager wasn't too friendly - we were told that the checkout time was 7AM for all rooms (even though we took two only by 11PM the previous night). The rooms were very basic, but worth the price given they were well air-conditioned and had water-heaters for the shower. The food from the canteen was also good, and custom-made based on request. So if you're looking to be treated well with the best in the hospitality industry, this ISN'T the place. It's only for those who are in town to go to the Jagannath mandir and leave right after.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms don't give you a very good view of the sea. There are no elevators to take yo...

Had been for a holiday with sister.
Absolute disciplined place to stay, proper timings, big & neat n tidy rooms......nice garden, the back door opens into the sea.....u jst cross n u enter the beach...ths part of the beach is non crowded......hence u will actually enjoy having a leisure walk with ur loved ones, sit n have a chat...even the garden is well done n maintained.
Nice value for money

Room Tip: Choose the 1st floor of teh guesthouse, u get a good view of the sea from the verandah

The holiday i had with my family and parent at Puri in Birla Guest House ..a truly perfect blend of Sea .. Sun .. and Divine/Deity . The location is best ..just opposite to the no so crowded beach ..seems just like you are on a personal beach. we stayed on 1st floooe ..Huge 2 Rooms with sitting and dining area inside the suite. Homely made food in the kitchen, that is remarkable, you will love the thali. plenty of space for kids to play and enjoy.
Overall - too good place to stay with your family for fun and frolic.

Never got to stay in this guesthouse as the management refused to accept our confirmed reservation of two rooms. We arrived from Kolkata on 9 February 2013 only to be gruffly told by the person in the tiny reception office that he was unaware of our booking. The manager duly arrived on a motorbike and was equally rude and unhelpful - simply shrugging his shoulders and stared at our party of five. This is an unprofessional place - don't count on a good reception if you arrive here - suggest you look else where for a more professional establishment. Whoever owns this place - presumably a Mr Birla - should look at his processes and guest relationships. Incidentally the whole guesthouse was completely booked out by ISKCON Mayapur devotees - which we concluded was the reason why our booking had been screwed up.
