It was told that Mr. Morgan had the money and Mrs Morgan, the taste, not sure how far that is true or if it was the other way around but still, someone did have the eye and the knack of building this quite and not so little Villa in a sublime location in Kalimpong, the lesser famed sister of Darjeeling - the queen of Hills in West Bengal. It is just so nice without being over the top! There are quite a few Pluses: The location - far from the main taxi stand (INR 80 by reserved car) it takes you away from the " tourist" zone to "vacation zone" and nestled across the Golf course. The view : peek at the mountain range early in the morning or on winter days when clouds dont hover around. The garden : Rich in various different types of flora and a well manicured lawn, with some stone benches in strategic places, the greens add to the relaxation. One should go there just to relax, to see the mountains , to feel the rain or get envolped by the mist, listen to the birds, look at the starlit sky and relax. Hugely recommended. But hey- Thats all been planned by Mr & Mr. Morgan 100 years back with the money they made from indigo & jute - what happened next? well apart from holding the house together and making necessary maintenance - not much. Though the staff and the Manager (Mr. Rumba) is very very helpful, eager to assist always and can be found late in the evening for helping you out, I guess the Tourism Office needs to use this property as a model and create a luxury segment. The library needs to be spruced up- currently it has 3 yes, you heard right 3 books and they should also keep the fireplaces going! The cuisine needs to be worked upon, while the local staple food is fine but a place like this must have a "Tea Session" with cakes and savouries to make this place come alive. These are heritage buildings and one is lucky to have one , why not make best use of it. Highly recommended for visit but if only the govt team worka little bit more and take this property to it true potential. I and many would be so so Pround and Glad!
