“Great vacation, friendly staff”
Reviewed 15 May 2014 via mobile

Beautiful heritage property in a picturesque surrounding. Right across the golf course, a nice monastery just ten minutes walk up a small hillock, great views, very serene... Ideal to de-stress and rejuvenate your mind.

Rooms are large, clean, with very basic furnitures. We stayed at two large rooms, at opposite end of the top floor. One room had a terrace facing the front. The other room (on the left, when you move up the stairs) was even larger, but it's bathroom had water drainage issue because of a long horizontal choked drainage pipe. The building is very nice, however there is some scope of improvement in its maintenance.

Staff are very nice, very informed of the local area, goes out of the way to help you. Food is good, we only tried local Bengali cuisine, well prepared.

Very well appointed garden. Our leisurely three days flew by before we knew it.

Oh my god !! Do you know there are such properties owned by state tourism corporations which have room rents peanuts as compared to private hotels. I am talking about Morgan House at Kalimpong which is a WBTDC hotel, a heritage property in which we were given a atleast 600 sq. ft. (excluding bath) palatial room with huge windows with brass handles offering panoramic view of a army golf course at a stunning room charge of less than Rs.2500/-. Guys go and grab it at once. If you want to spend a cool vacation in a colonial era hill station away from the hustle-bustle in a truly raj-era hotel, Go.

Room Tip: i think it was room no. 11

What should one write about Morgan House? It's a place where dreams are born, and can stay alive: forget the over-built concrete ugliness below, listen to the wind blowing and birds you won't probably name, watch the mist coiling up and engulfing you, the walls green with ivy and yellow with lichen. Much has changed since I first visited the place in mid-eighties, but it's still beautiful. So is the renovated cottage beside it called Tashiding. One doubts however, how long the serenity and the peace will be there...it appears that the owners of the property are keen to build on the large and not well kept gardens between Morgan House and Tashiding--sham new cottages are coming up! It'd offer more beds but will ruin the charm...

We had been here in the last week of December'13. We are satisfied. We have enjoyed leisure at the tourist lodge. This lodge is best of all hill tourist lodges of West Bengal Govt. Rates of food and beverages are minimum. Staffs are smile-faced.

Room Tip: Suite No.301.

The Morgan House has changed as Kalimpong town itself has changed. I first visited Morgan House 35 years ago and I kept on visiting this place since then. The very architecture, the expanse, the beautiful surroundings and still the services of this tourist lodge, made me come again and again. Earlier it was lavishly furnished with beautiful and very expensive carpets and furniture, and matching artefacts. It is located one of the hill tops of Kalimpong, called Durpindara and surrounded by mostly Army occupied areas. It is far removed from the chaos of the town. Those who are interested to have a quiet and relaxed holidays, this is an ideal place to stay. A short walk uphill will take you to Gumpha,a Monastery and also a view point. On a clear day, the Mt. Kanchenjungha and the other peaks are visible from there. The town itself looks very nice and distant. The afternoon tea, served at the lawn, tastes different and exotic. A walk after dinner, when sky is clear, even within the compound is heavenly. For those who want a relaxed, peaceful holiday in quiet place, this is the Best.

A place you will dream for to stay atleast once in your lifetime! The ambience, the food, decor and the majestic property with scenic beauty are all unique....beyong words to express! I stayed in a large double bedded room # 104 on the first floor which had a terrace attached to it overlooking the golf course on one side and a view of green valleys with Kanchenjunga at the backdrop. This is a great and treasured heritage. Although the place is isolated, but the access to the city market area is quite convevient. It is good to avail a shared taxi which cost Rs 10/- per person and while coming back, the charge is Rs 20/- per head. The sight-seeing rate is much lesser if it is availed from the market place than organised from the hotel. The food is customized so that the staff can plan and serve hot on time. The room size is quite spacious, clean bathroom with geyser providing running hot water. The furniture inside the room is good. The lobby along with the staircase are decked up with red carpet. Beautiful pictures of Kanchenjunga and Kalingpong are put up on the walls. But as one goes inside this heritage property, one gets the feelings of entering a world of fantasy and splendor! A breathtaking experience, a must stay to rest in the lap of nature to feel a sense of serene tranquility that envelops you once you are in this place.

I visited Kalimpong in the first week of December 2013 and stayed in Morgan House with my wife and little daughter. It was one of my best ever holiday experience which was way beyond expectation. Morgan House in probably situated in the best locality of Kalimpong, right in the heart of Kalimpong Military Station. The place is too good with very courteous and ever helpful staff. One can just sit and pass hours in the garden and the view of Mount Kangchenjunga, especially in the early morning hours, is simply amazing.

Room Tip: Choose the Super Deluxe Room (No 101) or Standard Room (103 or 102)
