I have stayed at the Himalayan 5 times over the last 7 years and it never disappoints. Yes it is faded here and there and some of the towels have seen better days but where else can you see Kachenjunga in the early morning sunshine 5 mornings out of 5! The same staff are there year after year and the lovely David makes the best breakfast tea I know. It is a charming hotel in a fabulous location. Kalimpong isn't easy to get to but your arrival at this hotel will make the journey wothwhile.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms look out on the mountains. Some have better water supply than others but just ask...

Our first time in India visiting Dr Graham's Homes school in Kalimpong, we were looking for a safe, secure hotel to retreat to from the chaos of the town. This hotel was owned by a former British trade secretary to Tibet and until recently run by members if his family. The grounds are beautiful with great views of the mountains. The room was clean and comfortable although the water supply to the shower was unreliable (probably not the hotel's fault ). There was only one slight hiccup - we had asked the hotel to arrange a taxi to collect us at the airport but when we arrived no-one was there. We phoned the hotel who gave us the driver's number to ring and all was quickly sorted. However on arrival we were greeted with "the driver said you weren't there" and told he had made a wasted journey. This didn't make sense but we suspect that two different members of staff had booked two different drivers. We ate breakfast and dinner there. The food was good and service very attentive and polite. I am sure we will stay there again on our next trip.

stayed there in may 2013. Nice location and views from Hotel Room. Clean and beautiful property with well-maintained gardens. Lots of flowers. Also enjoyed the Breakfast in the garden (on sunny days only). Dinner menu and quality was also good.

The locations is beautiful, has a great set of staffs and the food is excellent - the rooms are tidy and comfy. Has beautiful view from the Hotel of the Himalayas. Go only when the season starts as we went on an off-season and it was a bit hot at night and the views were not as good as it would have been in the season times. Try the local food provided at the hotel. Hotel staff are nice. Richard Gere the actor from Hollywood has stayed in that hotel. :)

Remember to lock the balcony when you go to sleep at night as i have read things been stolen from the rooms in one of the reviews.

Stayed for two nights in a newer room. It had its own little sitting room with a fireplace (which we did not need), and a wonderful balcony where we could sit and watch the early morning birds, with a great view of the mountains in the distance. The food was very good and helpings generous; the vegetarian member of our party was well accommodated. We especially liked the club-room atmosphere of the sitting room adjacent to the dining room, a great place to relax with a glass of wine after a busy day. If you stay there, take a look at the lovely illustrations of regional birds which line the stairway.
