“Durpin Dara hills and local sightseeing.”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

Durpin means binoculars in Nepali. It was a long uphill drive from Kalimpong bus-stand to the top of a viewpoint on the edge of the hill .With Saw the "Shiv Statue" on top of a distant mountain situated at Siddhesvara Dham in Namchi in Sikkim. With my binoculars the statue was clearly visible, pure white statue that seemed near as Sikkim was close to Kalimpong in a straight line as the crow flies. After observing the surrounding mountains which included Mt Kanchenjunga with binoculars we drove further to the top reaching "Zang -Dhok Palri(Durpin Monastery) ". The view from this monastery is excellent, entire valley can be seen on a clear day.The Indian Army has a base on Durpin Dara hills and also a excellent golf course.A visit to the historic "Morgan House" and the "Pinewood Cactus Nursery" is mandatory on the return journey from the hills back to Kalimpong.

“Durpin monastery”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

Located within the military cantonment is the Durpin Dara view point. A newly built monastery is the main attraction in the area. It is located away from the town and is recommended to reserve a taxi for a visit.
