We stayed here for the first 2 weeks of June. We arrive at about 10pm and were invited to the restaurant for some supper after being taken to our room by buggy. The 1st week of our stay was half term and the sun loungers were all 'towell reserved' by about 9.30am, however the following week was not a problem whatever time of day you went to the pool.

OUR ROOM
We had a good sized 2 bedroom family apartment with a view of the sea. The rooms were cleaned daily and towels changed, beds made. Only complaint regarding the rooms is that for a family of 4 the storage facilities for clothes was very limited, however it's not a major problem (especially with a teenager who doesn't tend to put clothes away anyway!). Our room was at the top of the hill, which is fairly steep, however as others have said there are the buggies to transport those who require it but to be honest other than transporting your luggage on arrival and departure, it was nice to burn off some of the holiday calories and the higher you are, the better the view. Would be better if the hotel did not locate single parties in rooms by families though as we did have an issue with 3 foreign and selfish males. We had no damp issue as others have mentioned.

POOLS
The new waterslides/lazy river were great, clean and well monitored by friendly life guards. The Adult pool looked very peaceful but being a family we did not visit this. The main pool area was good and seemed to remain an acceptable temperature which was a bonus. The children's paradise pool was literally a younger child's paradise, a pool with a little slide and different water pouring and squirting things, nice and colourful with a snack bar serving all a child could want - cany floss, popcorn, slush, ice-cream, hotdogs, burgers, chips. I would agree with a previous comment though and suggest some sunloungers as it's too far from the main pool for your children to go on their own, but other than shaded tables & chairs in the snack area, it was a case of towells on the grass which isn't very comfortable for any length of time.

RESTAURANT
The food was fantastic and those who have moaned should clearly fork out a bit more for their holiday and not expect something for nothing! The was a great selection of lovely food to choose from, different hot main meals, salads, pastas etc and beautiful desserts. The children ate very well the whole 2 weeks and not once complained. Only gripes are that Breakfast is whisked away quickly and if you arrive for the late riser continental breakfast as we often did (teenagers!), there isn't a great selection. However snacks are available between meals but we rarely needed to use these. Tables could have been relayed a bit quicker too, we often had to search for cutlery at busy times. Some nice staff though who worked hard all the time, particularly a couple of the ladies who were very friendly and tried to teach us some Greek - Efharisto?! Some guests seem to think they must dive in between you and jump queues though, heaven knows why as there was plently of food - even after they piled their plates ridiculously high and left half of it!"

BAR
Generally a good selection of alcohol, some cocktails included in the AI package, others not, but not a real issue. Some staff were very friendly especially the guy who shared Ouzo shots with us as we were departing and even made non-alcholic ones for the children to make it special for them too. However, others did seem to avoid serving British guests, one small lady in particular who was very unfriendly and made us feel quite unwelcome and uncomfortable, other Brisitsh guests we spoke to felt the same way. One time when I visited the bar she served 6 foreign people who arrived after me and when I was the last person there, she left me waiting while she cleaned around the sink. However, I think perhaps the key is that you need to be abrupt when ordering as this seems to work - maybe the British are too patient and polite???

ENTERTAINMENT
Logisitcally it wasn't easy for the team as the ampitheatre is away from the bar and often the entertainment here ended shortly prior to 11pm when the AI drinks ended, so I don't think they ever had a full house but they were friendly, approachable and worked hard. The quizes were fun and the children enjoyed the Bingo. There is a Childrens Team rund by Thomas Cook aswell as the German Team, although we never used this but the children that went seemed to enjoy themselves. It was nice to have some integrated entertainment too for all nationalities.

STAFF
Most staff were friendly and welcoming, all were hard working.

LOCATION
Yes it's out of Hersonissos, yes it's set on a fairly steep hill - so what. The hill provides a lovely setting and allows the beautiful views and the hotel is clearly advertised as being on a hill and not necessarily suitable for less mobile. Our room was at the top and it was a hike, we're healthy but not fitness freaks however, it never killed any of us and it burnt some of the excess holiday calories!

There is the shuttle service down to Star Beach, the shuttle is busy at peak times (particularly the 5.15 return) but it will return to collect you if you didn't fit on the first pick up. You can walk it and it doesn't take that long, but it does get very hot and it's not a very safe road up the hill to the hotel and scary with children. Star Beach is very busy once the youngsters arise from their hangovers but if you walk along (back on yourself), there are coves which are quieter and the sunbeds/umbrellas are quite reasonable. The are some nice bars/restaurants with great pools/slides etc for the children to play in while you chill (shame Britain isn't so considerate of families).

The town itself stretches along to the harbour, the shops are all much the same but you can grab some bargains and it makes a nice stroll and change of scenery if you want a break from the hotel. One place you must visit is Aquaworld which is at the far end of the town on the left. Aquaworld is a small'ish aquarium run by a husband and wife duo who are lovely and very welcoming, there are snakes, lizards, tortoise, octopus and a turtle. For those who are brave enough you can hold the snakes and lizards taking plenty of photos. It doesn't cost much to enter and once you have paid, you can come back as much as you want - we visited twice.

OVERALL
This hotel is great value for money, yes there are a few minor gripes but nothing that will ruin your holiday. All in all we enjoyed it and the children had a blast - fantastic facilities for children. AND not once did we witness unruly children bouncing balls off tables and smashing glasses whilst the parents got drunk, nor did we witness any poor choice and quality of food???? If you want an afforable AI holiday which your children will love, then this is a good choice!

I went on holiday with my boyfriend on the 7th of June we had booked to go to the other Mareblue hotel in Amoudara well that wasnt for us we were so bored as a young couple me being 21 and my boyfriend being 23 and most the guests being 50+ or German. So when the receptionist offered for us to transfer to the Mareblue Village without paying any extra, we accepted straight away.
We arrived to the Mareblue village hotel around 9.45pm on the 11th of June and we were greeted by friendly reception staff and we were taken to our room on a golf buggy as it is on a steep hill. As soon as we got into our apartment we were really happy to look out on the balcony to see a sea view and gardens, it was stunning especially compared to the ground floor car park view we had in the previous hotel. We found the relax pool to be really nice there are comfy sun loungers, there are no kids allowed so it is really quiet and you can actually swim in the pool, it was also close to the bar and we were served by a really nice bartender. The Lagoon pool is next to the restaurant, music is played and they play different games etc. For the kids theres a Kids paradise pool it looked fab.
In terms of food there is so much choice and it was to a really good standard could not fault it.
If you wanted to go to the town of hersossinos there was a shuttle bus six times a day theres plenty of bars, shops and restaurants to choose from. We enjoyed a night out in Malia which was 15 euros one way, this is perfect for young people so many bars and clubs plenty of restaurants to choose from too.
I would deffinetly recommend this hotel for families, couples and friends just after a relaxing holiday but with the nightlife nearby for the odd night out.

As grandparents taking 3 kids (ages 13, 8 and 1) on holiday for the first time without their parents we were a little nervous, about keeping them all happy, but have to say after choosing this hotel our worries were over. The Hotel itself was to a high standard(and we are picky), the food was excellent and with plenty of fresh produce , and with a variety of choices, wonderful puds. I think enough to suit everyone really. At times it could have been a little hotter but isnt that always the way with buffets
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the accomodation was clean and the facilties were good. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a fridge!
For the kids the Mareblue has it own waterpark with several large watershute slides and a lazy river. There is also a kids paradise pool area for the little ones with a snack bar serving, chips, hotdogs , and ice cream on demand. The Thomas Cook entertainers worked hard and there always seemed to be something going on around the pool. There are 4 pools, the waterpark, kids paradise, a family pool with a baby pool section(with mini slides) and an adults only pool area. Pool towels can be hired from the hotel you only have to leave a 10 euro deposit which is returned at the end of your holiday.
The hotel in on the side of a very steep hill, but there is a regular shuttle down to the town, we didnt use it as we stayed in resort, the kids didnt want to leave!!!
The evening entertainment was good too bingo in the bar followed by a show in the ampitheatre. Not usually my cup of tea but I enjoyed it and the kids thought it was great.
Thanks to all concerned we loved it so much we have already booked again for next year with the grandkids..we have also requested a lower room/pool view as pushing a babybuggy up the hill to our apartment was abit of a killer.

Give it a go we loved it!

Room Tip: ask for a low level room .

Had a really good week at the Mareblue village. Rooms basic but very clean & towels changed every day. Travelled with my husband and 18 month old son who had a ball. The pool area was very busy & you will need to be up early to get a sunbed. The food was good & plenty to choose from. Only downside was trying to get served at the bar. Some people dont understand the concept of a queue. Overall, had a great time & met some really lovely people.

Room Tip: Request a room at the bottom of the hill.

My family got back from the MareBlue on Tuesday. I don't nornally write reviews for Trip Advisor but having seen the mixture of what's been posted had to set the record straight. So, a few tips...

Firstly "THE HILL". Yes, it's steep up to the top rooms. It's also just a couple of hundred yards long - really not hard to get up if you're relatively fit. We had 6, 4 and 2 year olds with us (and pushchair) and no one suffered. My mother-in-law who is not well also travelled with us. Not a problem. You can get a lift up the hill until 11pm in a golf buggy so forget the hill.

The food is a decent quality and plentiful. TIP - if you have a family don't get to the restaurant for dinner when it opens at 7. Every other family is there and you get annoying queues. By 8pm everyone has disappeared and you can get your food without issue.

The Thomas Cook kids club is brilliant. Do not confuse this with the other German run kids club that people on TA seem to have been moaning about. It's run by lovely English girls and very welcoming.

The place is kept amazingly clean, room cleaned and towels changed every day and the outside areas are spotless. All the staff are friendly and helpful.

So that's the good stuff. To be honest, I would have given this hotel a 3 and a half star rating if I could have. There are a few blips:

The rooms are very basically furnished which is not clear from the brochures and we were a bit shocked when we got there. Having said that, they have everything you need, including a fridge and kettle. The problem that a lot of them seem to have is damp. This has been mentioned in previous reviews and is obviously a real problem in some rooms - including ours. Also, the beds are not that comfy!

The location may not be your cup of tea depending on what you want. The local town is boring and you really need to get a taxi or shuttle bus if you want to leave the complex.

There are a lot of ignorant Germans - tell me somewhere where this is not true in Europe...

Overall our kids had an amazing time, we enjoyed it, and really cannot fault the value for money.

BTW the all inclusive bar is excellent - lots of named brand spirits, soft drinks, beer and good coffee ... go and enjoy!!

Room Tip: Go for a high room if you want a quiet sleep

Stayed at the Mareblue in May 2011 (me, my partner and son aged 7), and had a fantastic time, had read some bad reviews on trip advisor so was a bit apprehensive, but needn't have been. Hotel was lovely, rooms very nice and cleaned every day. There was plenty of different foods to choose from, definitely something for every taste and lots for kids as well. The new water chutes were fantastic and all the kids loved them. There is a kids paradise section where there are burgers, hot dogs, pop corn, ice cream, slush and this was very popular with the kids.
Yes the hotel is on a hill, but it does say this in the brochure so don't know why some people complain about it, it would not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties.

The Thomas Cook entertainment team were fab and encouraged everybody to join in without being too pushy, well done Rich, Clare, Jase and Anya and they even came to wave us off as we left.

Can't think of anything bad to say about it, for what we paid, it is excellent value for money. We will definitely go there again.
