My partner and I have just returned from a lovely holiday at the Creta Maris Beach resort.
Having arrived late at night, we were delighted by the initial impression of the hotel reception area and the staff. The buggy ride to our room was exciting and the staff, helpful. However, when we entered the room we were a little disappointed as the furniture was old and chipped and reminded us of something you would find at a lower starred establishment. We mentioned this to reception the next day and after a few meetings they showed us a different room as they didn’t want us to be unhappy! However, by this time we decided to stay where we were because the room was a lot larger and we didn’t want any more fuss. It was just a pity that we didn’t get the same ‘wow’ feeling as we have in other hotels but we were told that they are planning a refurbishment in the future so all credit to them.
Here are a few other thoughts on our holiday:
Plus points –
The beautiful architecture of the bungalows – we walked along the pathways and took lots of photos because it was so well designed and pretty.
The main pool, beach bar and beach were good. We easily got sun beds on the beach so that we were positioned equidistant between pool, sea and bar! What a result! We were also impressed by the pool attendants who did their job well. Their policy of removing towels from reserved sun beds worked and they efficiently policed the pool area throughout the day. We watched them politely tackle people who were not from the hotel, without making any fuss and were impressed at how they fulfilled the rest of their duties.
The service at the beach bar was quick – we developed a liking for the ‘red slushi’ drink and the espressos went down a treat!
The lunch at the bar near the main pool was delicious – we enjoyed the chicken, rice, pasta and salads. The wine was nice too.
The daytime entertainment was good. The chap who did the Pilates etc. worked hard and everyone had a smile on their face - especially Anita.
Our experience at the Pithos restaurant was super. Nothing could prepare us for our delighted shock at being given all the starters from the menu! Amazing! We hardly had room for the rest of the meal but it was wonderful. We also enjoyed the Cochilas restaurant too.
The live singing around the pool and Greek dancing was brilliant.
The hotel is in a good location – you can walk to the busy town or along a quieter road. Perfect.
Points to consider:
Our first night in the main dining hall was terrible. Not because of the food or the hotel but because of the other guests. I was pushed at least 3 times, had my foot trodden on and even had a large lady rest her boob on my arm whilst standing in a queue. This really annoyed me and put me off the idea of ever doing an All Inclusive again! Fortunately, it did get a bit better during the week but what is wrong with some people?!
Main pool – Not once did I get in and have a swim or even a ‘bob around’ without being hit or bumped into by another guest. My partner kept reminding me that we could go to a quieter pool but I liked the music of the main pool and the ambience. I just wish that people could give you a little space! I’m not asking for tonnes of room, I’m just asking to be able to have a little bob on the edge of the pool without someone swimming into me! Again, this is not the fault of the hotel.
Cooked breakfasts could have been hotter in the Estia restaurant (or ‘Morgue’ as my partner called it). Also, it is not worth booking there for an evening meal as service was poor. We were shown to a table and left for ages. Nobody came to serve drinks. When we asked for assistance we were told that they were busy serving someone else! Finally we got our drinks and could start our meal but it was a bit disappointing. Why make the effort to book the place if you’re not going to be treated with a little more care and attention?
Entertainment in the evening was DREADFUL. The entertainers themselves were lovely, gorgeous people who worked very hard indeed and this is not a criticism of them in the slightest. They were friendly and kept the guests happy. You only have to read the reviews to see that they are a good bunch. My criticism is that the hotel feels it is okay for performers to mime at their evening shows. It is not. I have been to a handful of hotels where they have performers that actually sing. In this day and age it is an insult to watch people miming to songs.
Other points (not hotel related):
If you hire a car, be warned that some of the maps aren’t representative of the actual area – we tried going through a couple of villages on our way back to the resort and ended up having to do an hour and a half detour because the larger roads turned into dirt tracks and our little Fiat 500 couldn’t cope!
If you go to Zeus’s cave, there’s a LONG rocky walk up to it which could be difficult in the hot sun so go prepared! I also felt sorry for the donkeys having to take tourists up the hill in the blazing sun. You could tell they didn’t like it but I guess some folk are oblivious to these things.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday at the Creta Maris Beach resort and would recommend it to anyone. The hotel is really nice, the people are friendly and service is very good.
Thank you for your hospitality.
