“Great Spa”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

Didn't stay at the Albatros Hotel, but walked-in to the Spa and had a Manicure. They accepted me with no problem, very nice and clean, manicure was 30min as they promised and it lasted on my nails for a long time.
Nice people, warm welcoming, I recommend it very much!

Just returned from the Albatros on the 17th June holidaying with Jet 2. First impressions when we were dropped off by the coach were a bit scary - dropped us at the top of the road and said down that road on the left. Hotel lobby is old Cretan style and was very quaint. Very quick check in by pleasant staff, escorted to our Superior room no 444. When we walked into the pool area we were impressed all looked very clean and classy. Lift up to the 4th floor and shown to a lovely large room with full bathroom, balcony overlooking the pool and in the distance to the left a small view of the sea. Half bottle of wine with compliments of the hotel a nice touch. Only one pair of slippers and one dressing gown, strange in a twin room. Air con good in the room very efficient, beds very hard but we requested a topper the first day and one was put on the next morning. Free safe in the room and you can hire a kettle for the week for 10 Euros deposit. Getting a lounger at the swimming pool means the usual towel on the bed fiasco the padded ones are always reserved by about 6.30 am though there is a notice saying no reserving beds before 8 am. Food was limited for my taste but hubbie being more adventurous found plenty to eat breakfast - cereals, cooked choice sometimes bacon, scrambled or fried eggs, small german sausages, beans, sometimes mushrooms, beef tomatoes with cheese. cold meats, cakes, fruit and yoghurts, coffee served to you at the table with constant topping up - dinner the usual soup, salad, fish, pasta and a greek dish of some sort. Limited deserts but tasty. Downside every night but one the food was cold food is supposedly kept warm over the vat of hot water but this didn't appear to be constantly heated - thus cold food. Tried a variety of wines but found the house wine was best to our palette and very reasonable at 7 Euros a half litre carafe. Excellent waiter - Apostelos - who looked after us very well and we had banter over the world cup football scores. Entertainment on at the hotel every other night which consisted of Greek Dancing, Singer with an organist and another dance troupe ok usual hotel standard. Hotel prices were a bit steep on drinks at the pool and bar 2 Euros 70 for a coke!! Buy from the local Carrefour and bring back. This is through the lobby right out of hotel and left at top of road about 5 minutes, this is also where the excursions left from. Talking of these we took two with Jet 2/Avro tours for 78Euros each person - Palace ruins of Knossos which took in the ruins and a stop off at Iraklion the capital. Spinalonga which took in Elounda a boat trip across to Spinalonga, then anchoring up for swimming and a BBQ then a trip into Agios Nikolaus. Both excellent trips, the guides were brilliant and so knowledgeable could have done it cheaper on our own but would have lost out on so much information. Little train runs around Hersonissos which you get on at the Harbour 5-10 minutes walk 10 Euros 1 1/2 hours took in some local villages and a trip along the coast. Taking a walk to the harbour you tend to 'run the gauntlet' as there is someone standing outside every restaurant trying to get you to go in but it is friendly banter and you just say no and they back off - eventually. You can get a bus into Malia, Agios Nikolaus and other places on the main road 8 Euros 20 each way for 2 of us to Ag Nik hotel reception will give you directions of where to get the bus about 10 mins walk. All in all an enjoyable holiday weather perfect at 28degs - 31 degs. Could have been enhanced by the food being hotter and a bit more choice. The hotel is in a good area of Hersonissos being on a sweeping bay - rest of Hersonissos very busy and touristy but you can take that of leave it. The people of Crete are very friendly and helpful and you are made to feel very welcome and safe.

Room Tip: Would advise paying the extra for a superior room we heard several people complaining about the room...

We stayed in May for 10 days in a standard room .Simple tidy clean .We enjoyed the pool terrace and the view from the balcony .We stayed in a room on the top floor with open view to the sea , double bed and bath. It was very quiet and we could sleep with the balcony door open so that we could hear the sea . The reception and restaurant service was excellent , they gave us usefull tips for the night life in Hersonissos. Visit the New York and Palm beach club. The spa has a very god offer for couples for 69 euro you get 2 massages and private use of sauna jacuzzi and steam bath plus 2 glasses of sparkling wine!!! We did not book the Daphne restaurant but I have heard very comments about the food. We will defenetly go back .....

Room Tip: Book traditional olive oil massage in the spa

I don't normally write reviews but felt I should share my experience with people. Me and my friend have just got back from the albatros hotel we went june 10th 2014 for a week. When we arrived we thought we had been dropped off at a different hotel. The front of the hotel and reception area is quite fashioned. Our room was a standard room which was also very old fashion and the bathroom was tiny with a tiny shower curtain round a tray which stuck to you and leaked water all over the floor. We asked to change room but the hotel was fully booked. Just be careful when booking a standard room as it may not be what you're expecting from the pictures..several other people were complaining about the rooms while we were there and our jet 2 rep told us it happened a quite a bit but on the plus side the hotel is extremely clean and the pool area is beautiful, the staff are really friendly and the food is beautiful... its in a great location for the beach and shops and bars. i would give the hotel 4* but the standard room 3*. I would go back but would book a superior room in future.

We stayed in the hotel at the end of may. As usual on our return ( 3 times now ) we were greeted with so many smiles from the staff and felt so welcome. Everything was excellent, the room was great and the food was even better! So much choice, I do recommend the greek night food and entertainment was superb. We hired a car again and the staff told us of some lovely little villages to visit. As soon as we got home we booked to return in september cant wait, see you soon xx

Room Tip: We always book a superior pool view room they are excellent

My husband and I spent a week at the hotel for our 32 wedding anniversary, we had a fabulous time, everything about the hotel was lovely. Staff went out of there way to help you, from management to reception to housekeeping bar and restaurant staff, they were always so pleasant and helpful, the superior rooms are well worth the extra money. The only downside was the spa! We took up the 2 persons spa package of €69 for a treatment each and private use of the sauna, steam and hot tub facilities, as the package is only for an hour we felt very rushed and did not have time to use all of the facilities, so we were quite disappointed overall with the spa. would deffinately recommend this hotel and would come back again.

Room Tip: We paid to upgrade to a superior room in the new block and we were very pleased with our room, well...

As soon as we got married, we left our home to spend our honeymoon in Crete. The hotel met all our expectations. We had opted for the standard room, whose price was affordable but the room provided us with everything we needed. The hotel surprised with a welcome gift as soon as we arrived. What is more, the quality of the food was very good and our package for couples at the spa really worthed the time and the money. I propose to everyone the cocktails at the Seaside bar. They are amazing!

Room Tip: spa really worthed the money!
