“Getting Local”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

One of the best things to do if you want to learn about the real Crete. Eleni was a wonderful host and showed us so much enthusiasm for her food. We learnt heaps about the history of Cretan food but also had a wonderful relaxed evening eating our efforts from the lesson.

We were made to feel like part of the family not paying guests, what more can you ask for. In fact the next evening Eleni and her father took us the snail festival in the village. I really can't recommend this evening enough.

“Two devoted Cretans made a miracle happen!”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We were in Crete in November 2013 researching for a cook book about Cretan cooking and were advised to meet Eleni and Yannis and let them teach us the secrets of their local cooking. This happened in a nice home kitchen with a very pleasant atmosphere as both are 100% devoted to teaching people the 'miracle of Cretan cooking'. We learned to prepare a number of tasty local dishes and got a large amount of information on the traditional Cretan kitchen. Yannis and Eleni really know their local cooking and its history in depth and are eager to share their knowledge as well with international visitors as with local young people, in order to preserve the valuable traditions of their regional cooking. During our stay in Crete Eleni also participated in a local cooking competition, and won both gold and silver, and no wonder as she is both respectful of the traditions and interested in bringing new ideas to her cooking. Wonderful people! I warmly recommend all foodies to cook with them. You learn a lot!

“Minoan Cuisine - Cretan Miracle”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

If one wants to embrace the culture of an area, spend time with the locals. Go on step further and visit their home and cook in their kitchen. Cretan Miracle Diet & Cuisine offers such an experience. Eleni and Giannis host this fabulous event due, in part, due to Greece's economic downturn. Both out of work, they decide to blend two ingredients together; the art of cooking and passion to preserve history and create a wonderful, memorable evening Cretan style.

We picked up a leaflet from our resort and decided to take a cooking class. Under Eleni's watchful eye, we turned wheat flour into dough to create cheese pies, pasta for soup (boiled and fried) and pasta tortellinis to accompany Rooster au Vin. Side dishes included tzatziki, cabbage salad, and a bean dish. Extras included olives and honey too! All the ingredients are from Crete and the recipes handed down from our host and hostess' families. Plenty of homemade wine made especially by Giannis.

The price is $60 euro per person and well worth it! Giannis was kind enough to offer us a ride up and back for a slight charge.

Thank you for entertaining us Minoan Style. We loved it!
