We stayed here for the last two weeks of August and there are only positives with this resort. Food was excellent and with the all inclusive option you have one visit per week included to the A La Carte restaurant and the Pizzeria. You can also order packed lunches if you are going out for the day. There are 4 pools to choose from including the waterpark for the kids. The spa is also fantastic offering superior treatments to those available in England with good value packages for children also. The hotel is very clean and all the staff work really hard and are really friendly (especially Anna in the main pool bar).
I think it is worth paying for the room upgrade if you are a family as there is a partition giving you two rooms in one. The superior rooms are located by the main pool (106, 107 and 108 are the best rooms), so you don't need to climb the steep hill. Also, you get tokens to do your washing so you can come back with a suitcase full of clean clothes.
The temperature was hot but there is nearly always a good breeze. If you want to go snorkelling, go down to the Nano Beach Hotel. You can't always swim here if it's too windy and the red flags are up.
Stallis and Hersonissos are a short walk away and I think it is better to walk rather than go by bus as you see more. Malia is a short bus ride away but if you get the bus, make a note of the bus stop number where you get on so you know where to get off.
Spinalonga (the old Leper colony) is also a good trip to go on but take water with you as there are no shops or toilets on the island.
The airport at Heraklion is very small and queues are managed outside so this would be the only negative if there was a delay with return flights.

Room Tip: The best rooms are the superior family rooms by the main pool. You need to pay for an upgrade but f...

Looking for a hotel that is clean, has a great animation team, good food, very friendly staff, situated in a quit area outside Chersonissos and Malia, 4 stars, extra service from the Neckermann hosts Joost and Danny, direct acces to public transport etc etc....... You've found your next destination. We stayed in this hotel 8 years ago and now again 2 weeks in August and we enjoyed our stay very much. A great hotel to feel at home immediately.

Room Tip: The family rooms are located near the main pool. THE hotel is situated on à hillside and although tr...

All positives with this hotel and only two words of warning ! Cant say anymore than all the other reviews regarding the staff, food, cleanliness of accommodation and grounds, variety of swimming pools, activities, shows. All excellent. Was particularly impressed with the the Al a carte restaurant which you can visit as part of your package once within the week.
Words of warning - we booked a superior room but were really disappointed. It had lovely new furniture but the balcony was tiny. Could hardly get a small table and two chairs comfortably around it. No room for our teenage daughter. Also we were unfortunate to get the ground floor on a corner with no view at all of anything apart from a block wall and hedge! Sure it was the worst outlook of all the rooms! Next morning asked to move and the staff were very accommodating. We moved to a standard room with a fantastic view and large spacious balcony.
Although the brochure calls itself a spa hotel the whirlpool, sauna and steam room are all extras. Didn't worry us but think worth mentioning.
Big thank you to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Superior rooms may not necessarily be better. Check the location if you can.

We have today returned from our 10 day stay at this really lovely hotel! We really could have stayed longer. The hotel was just out a bit from hersonnissos and situated on a hill. Beautiful scenery and in a quiet location. Suitable for families and those wanting to relax.
All the staff were welcoming and friendly... the food fantastic albeit the all inclusive finishing at 10-30 pm although by this time we had eaten and drank enough!
There were daily activities by the entertainment team who were not pushy at all. Loved stretching in the morning with Agnes!
Our room was kept very clean and overlooked the middle pool and sea. It was on the middle if the complex..quite a steep little walk which we didnt mind but if you struggle a bit they provide transport to your rooms. A car is always available.
The only thing that was a pain was the sunbed situation.... you had to be up by 7-30am to get one! Not sure how the hotel can rectify this as nobody takes any notice of the sign stating sunbeds are not allowed to be reserved.
On our last evening one of our regular waiter nikolas (looks like a young John Travolta) gave us a gift. Olive oil produced by his family! Cant wait to try it.
Our taxi was booked to pick us up at 2-30am to take us to the airport by a very nice man (handsome too!) on reception and he organised a breakfast prepared for us, im sorry I cant remember his name as we were very touched by this!
I will be going back for sure. Thankyou the grand hotel for making our holiday :))

Just returned from our holiday we knew it was a good resort as we had been there last year and did not disappoint this year. The staff yet again where very friendly one member of staff made lunch and dinner times a pleasure. This was visilis what an asset to the place he is.The room was clean comfortable and a good size.My son was very impressed with the water park but I missed the volleyball court. The Animation Team where friendly and not pushy trying to get us to join in the games. The evening shows where good but could have been better maybe if they could sing live, act and dance the only one that could dance and had any talent was lynsey she always seemed to have energy in what she done.

We returned two weeks ago from a ten night stay at The Grand and we are STILL talking about it! We arrived at around four in the morning having had a nightmare flight from Birmingham (full of kids en route to Malia) and frankly I was in no mood for anything less than value for money...within minutes of arriving at The Grand my mind was at ease. The young man staffing the desk was engaging and polite, making us feel instantly welcome. He explained that the hotel was unable to provide exactly the room we had specified and as such, he upgraded our board basis from half-board to all inclusive. We were driven the short distance to our apartment and found the room to be clean and totally acceptable, with a good view across to the sea.
The resort has three really nice pools and a flume pool. Our favourite spot was to be the pool at the top of the hill, a place frequented by families, we found that the area never got too busy and with a snack bar adjacent we were only ever a (very) short walk away from endless cold drinks, donuts and snacks. Breakfast and evening meals were taken in the hotels' main building and whilst often busy, the buffet style restaurant provided lots of choice which my family, particularly enjoyed. I could write and write about the Grand but in summary, the staff are great (special thanks to Matina) and the resort is spotless, the pools are beautiful, the flume pool is a blast. We would recommend the day trip to the waterpark near Heraklion and the trip to Spinalonga (special thanks to Rita) We would certainly return to The Grand and we would certainly recommend it. Totally satisfied. One final tip....If you can afford to do so, purchase the VIP airport pass when you return home (cost approx. £100 for family of four) you'll see what I mean..MC

Room Tip: The hotel is on a steep hill with a number of apartments (and a pool) near the top, whilst it didn...

I was here one month ago and i had an excellent holiday. I recommend it with all my heart.
The room was cleaned every day. The food was great. The services were very good. In the restaurant the men must have long paints.
We spent an excellent vacation here.
