Personal Positives :

I stayed in the Superior rooms which I would definitely recommend to everyone but especially the elderly and anyone that would endure any physical troubles climbing up hills as the hotel is located on a hillside and the climb up to any rooms that aren't in the 100-500 block can be quite exhaustive. Rooms and hotel is immaculately looked after and is very clean! First two days I had trouble turning on the A/C but a quick call to the reception and someone was sent over in a matter of minutes and had to play about with the remote for around a minute to reset it and then never had the problem for the rest of the stay. Staff are very friendly and the animation team is superb, a credit to this hotel! I used the snack bar by the "fun pool" for majority of my meals and the service was quick and the snacks such as toast w/cheese &ham, burgers, hot dogs, etc were always tasty! On exiting the hotel and crossing the road, you will get to the beach in about 2-3 min walk. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel going both ways which is very convenient. We always just walked for around 15 min to get to the Hersonissos town. You get 1 free dinner if you are all inclusive in their ALC restaurant and the food and service is simply amazing!

Personal Negatives :

I know we don't drink the water in the swimming pool, but the water was salty, there might be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this but I've never experienced this at various other hotels I've stayed at. You had to pay €20/week for the safe key, I believe this should just be a standard facility. I felt the food was just plain, slightly repetitive and average at best in the main "Dionysis" restaurant, still eatable though so I would recommend folks to not get their hopes up. Also there is no ironing facilities you could request for your room which I was told was due to safety reasons, but even budget hotels that I've stayed at either have an iron in the room or provide you with one on request (although Grand does have a payable laundry service if you need anything ironed)

All in all, even with the negatives mentioned above, I would gladly return to this hotel if I visited Crete again.

Room Tip: Request for rooms in 100-500 block although these might be the superior rooms. 600-1100 is not too b...

Just back from a weeks stay(13-20th May) at this great Hotel.Modern well equiped for both couples and famalies however could present problems for people with walking difficulties as it has hills and steps to various parts of the complex. Suggest if walking difficulties a lower room and lower number is requested. Food plentyful and a good variety but could be hotter.Hotel situated on the outskirts of Hersonissou and E3.20 gets two people into Town via Bus which stops outside Hotel. E3.20 also gets two people to Malia and E3.90 into Aghios Nickolaos all one way and are max 35 mins on Bus.Shows are mainly outdoor in an Amphi Theater and did not attend any of these but you are given a cushion to sit on apparently.Staff very friendly throughout this Hotel and a visit to the A La Carte resturant is highly reccomended where waiter Vaslias is an asset to this establishmentRooms are spacious and the whole complex very clean.Would go to this Hotel over and over again but for having to go through Heraklion which is a nightmare due to having to join 4 seperate queues 1 to check in and have luggage weighed and given back to you 2 to have baggage scanned 3 to go through Security and 4 to show Passports.Need patience for this Airport.

Room Tip: Upper rooms have steps to them choose a lower room also a lso rooms between 100 and 300 as others ha...

Stayed for two weeks 9th to 23rd May 2014.

The staff at this Hotel are a credit to its owners. They are so pleasant and are so genuine in their efforts towards ensuring that you have a memorable stay.

We upgraded to a superior room (No. 123)and are so pleased we did as they are slightly bigger than the standard and are on the lower levels overlooking the main pool area with wonderful views of the sea and nearby Stalis.

The pools of which there are four are amazing - like everything else about this Hotel they were well maintained and spotlessly clean.

The food was excellent with plenty of choice - every mealtime was an absolute joy due to the waiting staff and the maitre"d, - they are all so attentive and friendly and as I have already commented upon they strive towards ensuring all your needs are catered for.

Thomas Cook have certainly have certainly picked a winner with this Hotel.

Room Tip: If you can upgrade then do so. Room 123 overlook main pool and has great views of sea and nearby Sta...

My fiancee and I have just returned from our 7 night holiday at the Grand Hotel... If you are thinking of visiting Crete then STAY HERE!

The hotel is beautiful and the staff are simply amazing and it is difficult to know where to start in describing just how perfect this hotel is however, for those wanting an in depth review... here goes.

Check In - We arrived at 5am due to a delayed flight and had a very warm welcome from the young man on reception. The check in was quick and easy; before we knew it, our bags were being taken into a car ready to be transferred to our room.

Room - We stayed in Room 402 which is very close (about 20 steps) to the main pool area. The room was cleaned each day to a good standard and includes a fridge, flat screen TV and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom was spotless, well lit and included a bath/shower with plenty of hot water.

Pool Areas - My fiancee and I stayed around the main pool area which was perfect for us and large enough to get those lengths in for those wanting to keep fit. There are plenty of sun loungers and we saw no evidence of needing to put towels out early to save a spot. There is a quieter pool areas for those who would rather sunbathe away from the animation team and there is a pool especially for children although the main pool also allows children to swim.

The hotel also has some water slides which are great fun (Height restrictions do apply.)

The Animation team around the main pool worked really hard and are not pushy. The games are light-hearted and fun for everyone.

Main Dinning Area - We were half board so had a great breakfast every morning with everything from bacon, eggs, croissants, cereal, various breads, yogurts, fruit... the list goes on. Something for everyone. The evening meal was the same with a good variety of food available and at a decent standard. The waiting staff are superb and ensure that all guests receive a warm welcome and farewell.

The hotel also has an À la carte restaurant on site however, my fiancee and I didn't try it (it did smell amazing though.)

To reiterate, the hotel delivers exceptionally high standards of service and provided my fiancee (who is 26 weeks pregnant) and I with the perfect break. If in the unlikely event you visit and are not happy with something then simply speak up during your stay because the staff will do everything they can to sort it.

Perfect!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 402 which is very close to the main pool and building. Perfect for what we needed.

We are just back from The Grand (13th May) and as like many other people we also booked to go to The Creta Maris Hotel many months ago and 4weeks before Thomas Cook informed us that it was overbooked and offered a different hotel which was not an option so we decided to got to The Grand and I am very glad we did as this hotel is one of the nicest we have stayed and the staff are the nicest, most helpful, friendly and pleasant I have ever met. The hotel is clean to a very high standard, and our room was basic, but was not in it much as was too busy lying by the relaxing pool drinking the fabulous cocktails - other rooms are more modern but very high up the resort and yes it is a steep hill, but I had e-mailed the hotel before arriving to request a lower level room and this was not a problem, the restaurant was very enjoyable for every meal - from the food selection to the sitting outside eating your breakfast in the sun and to the very attentive staff - the restaurant manager Yourgous (spelling maybe wrong) was superb right down to my own pot of tea every morning. The on site shop was very good for anything and the little jewellery shop was a gem - Lailia was so lovely and I got several lovely things from her. I would highly recommended this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing week in the sun at a fabulous hotel - as my title says I am glad the Creta Maris was overbooked.

Room Tip: If you are as fit as Jessica Ennis then a higher level is perfect, I am not and requested a lower le...

We booked through Thomas Cook last Sept to go to Creta Maris hotel. Approx 4 wks before flying TC emailed to say hotel overbooked and were moving us to another hotel.... we werent amused. Didn't like look of that hotel so arranged to go to the Grand.
The Grand Hotel was lovely. It wasnt on the beach but apart from that it was great. Food was fantastic and we loved the variety. Apparently Some people had complained though goodness knows why. We have been to a fair few hotels and this must be one of the top hotels with their food quality.
the hotel was very clean including pool and all public areas. Sometimes had a bit of a wait to be served drinks in evening but we werent in a rush and didnt mind. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Lindsey on the animation team was especially helpful.
The nearest little town was easy walking distance. We went to Spinalonga (last leper colony and setting of The Island book by Victoria Hislop) on local buses and boat and had a great day out.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.
