So to start this review there was both good and bad points and to be fair we would never return due to the bad points.

To start we was greeted after a 6 hour plane delay by a very kind and thoughtful night porter who explained he was a photographer in his spare time?
Amazing service and felt very welcome!

Our room was placed near the main pool and we was placed very close rooms together (family trip).

The entertainment team was not present for the first day of our holiday but was very funny team especially Mattia!

The bar ladies in the lower pool was amazing and spoke to us every day.

ROOMS VERY CLEAN! Well done housekeeping! ⭐️

Now the problems

No food after 6pm even though we paid for 1 more day as stated on card, was not told this on check in, was then told our 7 year old girl would have to pay to eat!
All inclusive finishes at 10:30pm everyday strangely enough after the entertainment show finishes!
Reception staff rude in the day and spoke down to you, staff in evening dining wouldn’t serve you drinks unless you called them twice, restraint manager asked for my sisters number twice which was a bit freaky, NO SHORTS ALOUD in the evening for guys but girls can wear anything including bottoms out? I’m sorry but that is very sexist.
The pools won’t let children go on slides unless they can swim unaided with no googles to the end of the pool, not even to touch the side.

Won’t be returning to the grand hotel and will next time consider staying in the one that cherish guests more.

This hotel is well worth a visit. The rooms are spacious and cleaned every day. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food spoils you for choice. So many different options available. All excellently cooked but not always hot enough.would recommend going all inclusive as it can be costly for drinks and food if only half board. No kettle available in rooms for tea or coffee. There are four different swimming pools to choose from, with animation team at main pool for water polo, aquarobics etc. Also boccra and yoga. Daily show in theatre every night except Thursday with live music alternative in main bar for those not wanting to go to the theatre. Courtesy car for those staying in the higher rooms on the hill available all day. Plenty of places to visit either with your rep or from the small travel shop just outsi.de the hotel. There is also a small supermarket inside the hotel and one outside as well. There is also a wellness centre with indoor pool. There are also lifts to all floors in the main building.
Be aware that you must pay the government tax at time of check-in and also a charge is made for pool towels for laundering and a returnable deposit. I would highly recommend a visit to this lovely hotel. I will most certainly be going again.

Room Tip: Best rooms for sea view on ground level are 401-413 +501-513

After a very enjoyable stay in May 2017 we decided to return in May 2018. Hotel grounds spotless as always, food excellent. For those who have stayed before and crossed over the road and cut down the side of Nana Beach hotel to the beach, they have now put a big gate on preventing access which was disappointing. Walked down the hill to Star Beach instead which was great, some great waves and facilities for big and little kids including bungee jumping, jet skis etc

Recommended, first trip to Crete and won’t be last!
Hotel staff are brilliant, animation crew first class with the kids as well.
Food was excellent, as well as the two a la carte nights to top it off.
Rooms were lovely and the resort was so clean.
Can’t add any bad points, if your thinking of this area then don’t think twice!!

Have just returned from the Grand Hotel after a weeks stay, so please note this is not high season. We arrived late Friday evening, reception staff were very friendly took our booking details, took our photos for our ID badges for our all inclusive stay. We were then beckoned over to the restaurant by George where a small buffet had been set for us arriving and bottle water on the table also. Nice touch as we were quite hungry, the buffet satisfied our two sons (11 & 13 years). Back at reception the porter arrived and took us and luggage to our room (607) in a Jeep. This is were several other reviews have made reference to the hill, fortunately we were not up the hill but just behind the main pool area. I must say I am glad I was not at the top of the hill !! There is however a man in a golf like buggy that transport people up and down the hill, he appears to be there all day.

Our suite was basic even though its states superior family room, there was a dividing door between us and the kids, there is a fridge, safe (which you need to pay extra for to use) good amount of wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and a basic kit of shampoo, body lotion and shower gel which was refreshed daily as needed. Maid service daily very efficient.

The all inclusive buffets (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) have a wide selection so there should be something for everyone to enjoy and we had a fussy 11 year old who never went hungry. We also could have half bottles of wine (red, white or rose) at lunch & dinner each and the kids coke, fanta etc. There is also bottle water (just ask) so no need to buy from shop downstairs.

With the all inclusive you can have one visit each to the Aegean Restaurant or Italian, unfortunately for us the Italian is not open until June and we returned the 1st June. However the Aegean restaurant was fabulous but go in hungry - your get all five starters, then choose 2 of four salads listed, then your main course, we had beef, lamb shank, pork loin and our fussy 11 year old had chicken and chips (so very accomodating), pudding was delicious a mixture of traditional greek desserts.

Towels are changed daily in the rooms and you can hire beach towels with a refundable deposit of 5euros per towel which can be changed daily except sundays at the Spa.

The slide park area always had sunbeds available however children must be accompanied by an adult and the lifeguards do check! Also children are not allowed to use the slides with ANY form of floatation device. These slides gave our kids hours of enjoyment but be warned the walk up to the slides is on rough paving (to prevent slipping) which gave our sons blisters on their feet. I would suggest the use of neoprene wet shoes to prevent this.

The info given by the hotel states 'Its strictly Forbidden to reserve any sun beds or umbrellas at any time during your stay' this is not enforcable as most beds are 'towelled' by 8.30am!!! Goodness knows what it is like in high season.

The animation team do try hard and probably entertain the kids but they are not every one cup of tea! if you dont like silliness then dont join in, leave it to those that do! No point in complaining....

The adult pool was relaxing and quiet away from the hussle and bussle of the main pool. Did not go to kids pool up the hill, so can not make a comment.

We had previously been confused by a comment made on trip advisor about all inclusive drinks - to confirm only two drinks can be received per card per visit to bars e.g. if you require 3 drinks then you need to take two cards to the bar. There is no limit to the amount of drink you can consume between 10.30am - 10.30pm in the all inclusive package. Some of the drinks are branded e.g. Beefeater Gin. I do not know how busy the bars are in height of season but the bar areas were easily accessible and able to get drinks easily when needed.

We were able to extend our room checkout until 5pm for 30 euros (depending on availablility) which meant we could enjoy another full day around the pool and continue to access all inclusive until 6pm.

If you attend the 'Lets Meet' meeting with Thomas Cook ensure you ask questions about excursions e.g. Land Rover Safari and what to wear and money to take and also the Greek Night where the pick up is as we were told the Grand Hotel however it was across the road at Nana Beach Hotel.

Personally for me this is a family hotel not really couples if you want a quiet relaxing stay.....enjoy!

Room Tip: Rooms 700 or below are more easily accessible above this the hill is quite steep
