The bathroom had black mould around the bath, the shower tap attachment was coming away from the wall, no shower curtain only a bare rail, the tiles were cracked, the soap dish holders were rusty, the towels were old and frayed, and there was a leak from the toilet which flowed into a drain in the floor.
The room had plain wardrobes with just three hangers supplied, the décor was tired and in need of refurbishment (a squashed mosquito on the wall was still there when we vacated), the beds were two singles with what appeared to be army blankets (brown) as covers, the sheets were worn and showed some stains, the pillow was tiny and only one per bed, the air conditioning was deemed an extra charged at 7 Euros a day.
The balcony was tiny and faced the other the balconies directly opposite which were close and made privacy impossible.
Our friend’s room was virtually identical, and we all agreed that both these rooms were not befitting a so called 3 Star hotel. When we asked to be re-located, the manager told us all the rooms were full and anyway ‘all the rooms were the same’, basically we were stuck with our lot.
The restaurant was basic with old furniture, some uneven tables covered with tired table clothes.
Breakfast consisted of bread, cold meat, cheese, boiled eggs in their shells and a choice of two cereals.
Dinner was abysmal a selection of salad dishes(basic), and a main course (no choice), the sweet again no choice.
The staff in the restaurant wore casual clothes, were un-professional and not very friendly.
Three days into our holiday we returned to our hotel in the afternoon, our friends Beverly and Kevin Davies were summoned to the reception desk where they were accused of soiling their bed sheet, and damaging a towel, they were asked to pay the sum of 30 Euros to cover the cost of replacing these items. On returning to their room they discovered that their bedding and towels had not been changed. Mrs Davies returned to challenge the Manager, who then apologised and said it must have been a mistaken room number taken by the maid, and he would talk to her later.
Cleaning of the rooms was minimal, our sheets and towels were only changed the day before we were due to leave.
The pool was the best part of the hotel, adequate pool and sun loungers, the area appeared to be clean although I never witnessed any cleaning of the pool itself.
The snack bar at the pool had inconsistent opening times and the choice of snacks was abysmal.
The bar in the reception area was not staffed and, therefore, remained closed for the duration of my holiday.
This hotel is advertised as 3* my assessment would find it hard to award 1*.
Crete is a lovely destination but I would advise anyone to avoid this hotel at all cost.

Stayed with my husband in the hotel in August 2005, it was booked by travel agency. that advertized it as 'rather presentable". It hardly WAS. The good points: air conditioning was working, the room was not facing the noisy central room, hot and cold water was available in any amounts desired. The breakfast was eatable, I mainly lived on feta and salads. Bad points: the one half of the double bed was half-broken, it was also VERY squeeky. The towels looked worn out and dirty, we used our own. Ants inhabited the bathroom. The linen on beds was changed only once; when I asked for a spare bedsheet, they only grinned at my at reception. When we had to go on an early trip, we were given rotten cucumbers in the so called "breakfast basket" that we threw away, nothing but bread was edible. We mostly drove around, ate out, and made fun of the hotel, because it was tolerable when you were morally prepared. However, it's definitely NOT a 3 star hotel.

I'd rather stay in Dimitrion than in Baghdad, but when I'm visiting Crete next time, I will choose a better hotel.

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2007

On arriving at 3am we were greeted by a rather sleepy night porter who quickly took our passports and handed us our room key, we were told our passports would be returned the following morning.
On entering our room we were presented with the sight of twin beds after having booked a double room. There seemed to be music playing but could not work out where from. Tiredly we fell asleep eventually crammed together in one single bed.
A few hours later we awoke and decided to get in some breakfast, we quickly dressed and went downstairs. The dining room was empty so we went straight to the food counter to pick our breakfast. We were surprised to find only "continental" style food which comprised of bread, ham and cheese no sign of any cereal or fruit so I guess that was it. We picked a couple slices of bread and some orange liquid which I suppose they were trying to present as orange juice. Then took a seat. The bread, we found, was stale and who knows what the orange liquid was. From that day on we did not go down for breakfast.
After we had showered and dressed we went to reception to claim back our passports and to complain that our room was a twin and not double. They said there had been an error and someone else had got our room. We were handed a set of keys for another room to have a look. On entering the new room we saw it had a double bed so we accepted it staright away. It was also on the ground floor which we thought would be handy for getting to the pool. We returned to our first room and packed up what little items we had unpacked and made our way to the new room.
Dinner that night comprised of cold pasta, rice and salad, again with bread. There was also some kind of meat on offer which seemed to be possibly beef or lamb maybe?
That night we went to explore a little of the area then returned to the hotel to sleep. The following morning I awoke to feel something biting my leg, I assumed it was just a mosquito and didn't think anything of it. Later that day I was bitten again when it became clear this was not a mosquito and some other kind of insect. After being bitten numerous times I found fleas in our bed. Immediately we went to reception to complain and have our sheets changed. We were told it was not hotel procedure to change bed sheets until after 5 days had passed, which we thought was extremely unhygienic, with some more persuasion we got our sheets changed.
In the reception area we met another couple who had arrived the same night as we had and infact had come off the same flight. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the hotel and its lack of facilities. They had arranged to meet with the holiday rep that day to complain about the food and the service. On hearing that, we decided we too, would express our views. The rep was greek and spoke to the manager after we had told her our concerns, who knows what was actually said as we unfortunately do not speak a word of greek. The rep then left and we continued with our holiday.
As the time passed I got more and more bitten by the fleas which seemed to be infesting the room, until my legs were coming out in large red lumps. It became obvious that the bites had become infected so we went to the nearest pharmacy to buy some insect bite cream and insect repellant. We again arranged to speak with the rep. By this time we had got talking to a third couple who were also dissapointed with the hotel. Again the rep spoke to the manager then left. At dinner that night us three couples met in the dining room, by this point we were feeling somewhat malnourished and the second couple complained directly to the manager. He was clearly not happy with his hotel and staff being critised and threatened that if they complain again he would remove them from the hotel. Again we contacted the rep who arranged to meet with us on that being the 4th morning of our, fortunately week long stay, however for the other two couples it was a fortnights stay. The second couple became understandably angry and requested to be moved. The rep began the enquiring and soon found them another hotel rather more suitable and up to standard that we would have expected from a "3 star" hotel. However they had to pay around 140 euros for that privelege, which under the circumstances was a small price to pay in the knowledge they would then enjoy their holiday. As we were only staying a further 3 nights we decided to brave it out.
The biting continued and the service or food never got any better, however on the 5th day there was a vending machine installed providing some conefctionary goods.
The bar was never manned and certainly was never open at night which was stated in the brochure as being open 24 hours. The brochure also spoke of a poolside bar which we never saw open in the whole week we stayed there.
On checking out of the hotel on the final night we were awaiting our coach to take us to the airport when the night porter began chatting with us. He asked if we had enjoyed our stay, which we did not hesitate in replying definitely not and would not be returning to Crete.
On our return to Scotland I made an appointment with my G.P to have the bites looked at, she just by quickly glancing at them coul tell were severely infected and prescribed some antibiotic cream and tablets.
The next trip I made was to our travel agent through which we had booked our holiday. We informed her of all the problems and she encouraged us to put it all in writing and she would forward it to Globespan who were our holiday provider. We also included numerous photos of the hotel and the state of the bites on my legs.
Several weeks later we recieved a letter from Globespan making excuses for all our complaints and would not believe that my bites were caused by fleas, merely by mosquitoes. They did not feel that we shuld be compensated in any way and we heard nothing more from them.

I have since viewed ---.com and Dimitrion hotel, Hersonissos seems to no longer be offered.

After arriving late at the hotel we went straight to our rooms finding there were no facilities to make a drink we went to the bar but it was closed apparantley it never opens you have to ask at rececption for a drink. The rooms are clean but very basic alot of mould and dirt around the shower base. We booked this hotel on a half board basis so next morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast which consisted of ham cheese boiled egg sliced bread and yoghurt supposed to be a varied continental breakfast? We decided to go to the beach for the day and return to shower and go to dinner shower water cold not a good start went down to dinner only to find there was only one dish on offer I think it was lamb but by the time we got there no meat dish left only small portion of salad and pickled veg were told that they would bring us some more mash it was just cooking to our surprise they bought chips a couple who came to dinner at the same time asked if they were putting more food out was told they had finished due to guests eating to much so they would not be cooking anymore that night the manager came in and said he was sorry but no more food and we must also pay for our water. The next morning breakfast was the same so we tried breakfast again did'nt even bother with dinner next morning breakfast was swarming with ants so did'nt bother evening meal was spaghetti bolognese no other dish o offer we asked if they had any fruit for desert and was reluctanly bought three oranges for four people from then on we did'nt even eat at the hotel,

Other problems were the bed linen was only changed once and we had to throw our hotel towels on the shower floor after three days to get them changed when we went back to our room in the evening they had'nt replaced the towels we had to go and ask for them staff are not friendly at all.

The road outside the hotel is a very busy road so be careful.

My son and his wife had just come home after spending five years in Japan so we wanted to take them to Crete to show how wonderful the place was but I'm afraid I just felt that I had dissappointed them with this hotel and location We have spent many a good time on Crete and other Islands but if this had been my first trip it would have put me off for life

The hotel seems to be 3 stars, but it's more like 1 star and a half. The walls are dirty, the air conditioning is not included in the price, as they say, they sometimes give you old towells and sheets, with threads hanging from them. In the restaurant, the forks are put in a dirty old plastic box. The furniture is old, with some pieces missing.
