“English entertainment needed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2013

We have just returned from Lyttos Beach Hotel and did enjoy our holiday. However it is not really catered for English guests. The complex is beautiful and the location is excellent, but there is no entertainment for me or my 5 year old boy.
By day the pool area is great for both adults and children and will keep everyone satisfied, my son absolutely loved the the water pirate ship which has several slides and water features. The park is the best holiday park I have seen whilst abroad with a great zip wire.
If you are looking to use the child care facility and you are English, this would be impossible as no one speaks English and this not ideal. My son never met another English child to play with and on the whole complex there was less than 10 English people.

However for us we enjoyed the nice surroundings and the hotel facility's so it did not spoil our holiday. Dining arrangements was not the best in the main restaurant. This was due to table of eights and sharing tables with total strangers. This would not be so bad if we could communicate to each other. The best way to avoid this option is to book the day before for the Beach Taverna, it is a lot more relaxed there but does shut at least once a week for private functions.

Overall it was a nice holiday but if entertainment and very few English people on the complex bothers you - don't go!

Nickos at the pool bar was very friendly and made everyone feel welcome. Also the lady at fish spa is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Beach bungalows or sea view rooms are well worth paying an upgrade for.

I've been there with my colleagues from work. We got a room which was quite big with double bed and two sofas.
The hotel is perfect for families - a lot of meadows, tennis courts, theater, spa, very big pool, children's recreation room. It has private beach right next to the hotel. The area of the hotel is huge.I like the best the restaurant and the bar. The food served in the restaurant is very tasty and is much better then what is served in the taverns in the city.In the bar one may order cocktails - alcoholic and non alcoholic, juice, ice cream, coffee, etc.
In nearby Hersonissos town there are a lot of small shops, bars, discos. There is a bus which can take you for 2 EU to this town.
We have rented a small car form the car rental office for 55 euros with all the insurances (30 EU for one day). The car rental in on the side street - don't rent from the guy in the hotel - it is more expensive - 45 EU for a day with CDW and check that air condition works - in our car it did not work.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view on the sea - front line to the sea/promenade. Rent a car not fro the hot...

Three days before flying, our travel agency told that the selected hotel was under reconstruction. So we were redirected to Lyttos Beach. Every thing is there to make it a nice place but there is a serious lack in coordination. Especially the restaurant is terrible. Too much peolpe in a short period (each meal duration is 1h30). Only three coffe machines for breakfast (over 300 rooms), plates were never served hot, not enough refilling. Though the staff is very friendly and helpfull, and they try to do their best with the poor means they had.
Enough diversity in the presented food.
Restaurants have only tables for 8 persons. As a couple we could never eat with just the two of us.
the bar at the pool is very noisy. Barman and Barmaid are very good (thanks Nikolaos). drinks are OK.
The pool is surprising, minimum depth is 1m40; very dangerous for little children. No stairs to enter the pool, which is not easy for older or disabled people. Beach is nice and big (350 m) with enough seats and umbrellas. Pool and beach are under control of a life guard.
Lots of Russian people.

Room Tip: The good rooms are the sea front bungallows.

We stayed at the Lyttos Beach from 2nd April for a week. There were ten of us, including three children. It wasn't the hotel we had picked, our choice wasn't going to be open so this was the alternative. We arrived at midnight and our first day disappointed us as, being all inclusive, we expected snacks and drinks from 11.00 till 17.00. Instead there was beer and nothing for kids! I rang tour operator and by next day all was sorted....snacks, ice cream and a good choice of soft and alcoholic drinks. There were very few tourists at hotel but a large number of young tennis players, attending a tournament. (Hotel wouldn't have been open otherwise).
Food in buffet area was plentiful and there was a good choice of salads, hot food, breads and sweets. Wine kept in fridge, both red and white! We helped ourselves to a bottle as required! On tap beer at lunch and evening too plus soft and hot drinks.
In high season there is an earlier kids' meal time. But as with most of facilities - night club, kids' club, other restaurant and entertainment, these were not available as it was early season. There are play areas for kids, though zip wire wasn't working. Good water slides which we used too.
Rooms clean and comfortable, not quite as shown in brochure, but perfect for our needs.
Plenty of sun beds, though parasols not out yet on most beds.
Location good but there is short walk to bus stop on main road. We walked along coast in both directions and it was very evident that Crete wasn't fully open for business!
Overall we enjoyed our stay, even if I did have to call UK tour operator about all inclusive!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view!

This hotel is designed for families with kids, although at the end of September there were much fewer kids around. The grounds are pretty big and there are plenty of things to do and places to go to. Staff was a little bit too relaxed, may be because it was almost the end of the season, however more attention to guests would have been appreciated.

Also rooms could have been cleaned a little bit better, nothing major but even a 4 star hotel needs to keep up with it's image.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Bungalow by the Sea, which was perfect for us as it gave us more privacy, however WiF...

While the water slides in the facility are great if you are traveling with kids, the place is sworming with Russians so you don't feel like you are in Greece. Also, expect to be aggressively be pushed around during dinner. The drinks taste terrible and i have had a few bed bugs bits. Beach is not good for swiming and the resort is very windy. Luckily, the management was very helpful when we wanted to cancel our reservation which we are grateful for.
