Even if you are not religious people, one must see the monastery, which is really fantastic and the experience is truly overwhelming!A lot of people visit as it has an icon of Holy Virgin Mary that can produces miracles, according to the Greek Orthodox Church.

“Gorgeous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

The cathedral is very impressive, both inside and out. The museum is less so - the paintings are nice, but nothing to go out of your way to see.

“Culture and tradition”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013 via mobile

Seeing the locals walking 800 meters up the hill on hands and knees to visit the church to kiss the icon of St. Luke , is the first glimpse of the devoutness , and custom of this island church.all the way up to the church are vendors of religious icons , church itself is well worth a visit it has the icon , although the crowds waiting are endless, you can visit other areas of the church with easier access , containing many religious icons the church ossuary, elli mausoleum with objects from cruiser torpedoed , gallery if titian artists

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

Oh dear! Went 25 years ago but things have changed for the worse. We love the churches etc but this was a painful tourist trap which took 2 hours to go up the many steps to, pushed and punched by crowds of hysterical hot folk who insisted on fighting their way to the front of the crush to get in. Sadly, once inside the outer enclosure you are trapped in a one way system and can only gradually edge forward. We admired the pilgrims on their knees, but perhaps that is easier than the crush of standing etc. it felt anything but spiritual.
