The warning signs were there when we were picked up at Tinos port by the Finikas Family Boutique Hotel courtesy mini bus. The driver was clearly a chain smoker and the bus wreaked of stale smoke. Our hearts sank. Tucked away in a side street up the hill towards the iconic church adorned by so many pilgrims, the hotel is enclosed claustrophobically by other buildings. However the rooms are a good size, superbly equipped; and almost clinically clean. The walls seemed paper thin - we felt as if we were sleeping with the snorer next door. We went out for supper and on our return, Mr Chain Smoker was now on reception - the whole hotel wreaked of smoke, including our room. I opened the bedroom balcony doors to reduce the effects of passive smoking. We were woken early by with a cocophony of church bells. Breakfast was served on a lovely roof terrace. It is such a shame - this hotel had the potential to be excellent but for us it was ruined by the smoker who was clearly oblivious to the potential feelings of his guests. We recognise that if stale smoke does not bother you - then this is a great place to stay. We stayed only one night.
