“Great scenery”

Worth taking in the house and gardens also. Visit the teashop for excellent baked goods. Just take note of where you can swim on the beach as part of it has dangerous currents. There is a lifeguard on duty during the summer months.

“Beautiful beach!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

What a find! After looking round the beautiful gardens of Derrynane House we took a short walk and came upon this beautiful beach. Lovely for couples and for families as it appeared to be very safe. Easy car parking a few minutes walk away.

Near Derrynane hotel. Ideal for long walks. Easy access. Uncrowded. Bring a camera. Nothing to dislike.

“One of the loveliest little beaches in Kerry”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

We strolled down to Derrynane Beach on a gloriously sunny June afternoon having toured, right next door, Derrynane House, the country home of Daniel 'O Connell, one of the greatest men in Irish history.
The white sand beach has fine views, warm shallow water for paddling, rock pools to explore and the right sand for making sandcastles. As it's the Atlantic ocean one needs be careful and take local advice before venturing a swim farther out, this pertaining to most beaches on this coast. We chose a good moment as though beautifully sunny there was scarcely anyone on the beach. It was a different story the next week as many seemed to have had the idea to visit at the same time making it a bit more crowded, yet with room for everyone. The clever blue house in the shape of a boat across from the beach in the near distance is totally charming and the site of the old priory and graveyard, if you are feeling even a little bit fit, is certainly worth while. Bring a picnic and make it a beach day.

Great for families and couples, lovely clear water with safe swimming beach. There is also a lifeguard on duty during the summer months as it is a blue flag beach.
