“good place in center of town”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

The room was small, yet very clean. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The front desk was very helpful with any questions. The hotel is in the middle of Longyearbyen. The hotel also offers a nice breakfast in an area where food is quite expensive.

This is a modern, a bit simple but very nice hotel and the view from the top floor is great and really let you get a feeling for how Longyearbyen is. I might also add that the breakfast that is included in the price is eaten across the street in a sports pub. This fact didn't get your hopes too high, but I was positively surprised at the quality and have to say that it was quite OK.

Room Tip: Top floor for great view.

We spent 4 days on Svalbard early July. Stayed at Svalbard Hotel. In "mainland language" I guess we would have called it a motel due to its modular architecture. Nothing is built on Svalbard. It is prefab in Norway and erected in Longyearbyen. Experienced as fresh and new. Less wear and tear than normal for any hotel as it is common practice to take off your shoes when you enter any building on Svalbard (old coal miner tradition). A very good breakfast served at the cafe opposite the hotel. Friendly staff. ...but as with any commodity presented with limited availability - very expensive. That is why I have ticked 'Average' below re value.
Our only disappointment relates to Svalbard Booking which is the same company as Svalbard Hotel. When our son caught a bad cold and could not travel with the pre-paid rib-boat, we asked to have him transferred to the larger boat where he could do the sightseeing in-doors. That was however so difficult if not impossible because the big boat was operated by another event company. COMPLETELY WRONG ATTITUDE. Svalbard booking has seemingly not understood that they are selling destination Svalbard, not only their own products. I recommend a policy and attitude change among certain people before it turns into a reputational problem.

The hotel was located in the end of the walking strip and the room was clean and cosy. The staff was friendly and the breakfast that was served in the restaurant/pub opposite the hotel, was very good. The price was reasonable and you had coffee/tea in the room.

All in all a good experience. Very warm and cosy atmosphere in hotel. But to all you foreigners: Its extreme expensive to stay at hotel in Svalbard. This is not a holiday if you want to save money.
The Ala Carte restaurant was extreme expensive

A great location (although it is hard to be far away from the centre in the small Longyearbyen). Our room had a modern design - simple and pleasant - with a with a cute polar bear above the bed.

Coffee and tea available in the room, and a tv with some international channels. But I assume that if you have travelled this far away the TV is not the most important thing anyway....

In newly built hotels such as this one the bathrooms are always fresh, which I highly appreciate.

One down side: We asked for two separate beds and put apart you get to sleep in a 80 cm wide bed, a bit to small in my opinion.

You eat breakfast in a bar across the street, with an ugly interior design reminding of a night club in the eighties. That aside it was a very good buffet with a wide selection of warm and cold food, even including waffles.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and I think it was perfect for my stay in Longyearbyen. I had booked a single room and got a room with a bunk bed. At first I had my doubts about the bunkbed, but in the end I was quite happy with it since the bottom bed was quite big. Downside is you can't sit in the bed.
Wifi was free but the signal was low at times. The hotel is located on the main street of the town and everything is within walking distance. Breakfast was served at Svalbar across the street and was simple but enough. The hotel has a microwave downstairs and a fridge that guests can use. The room comes with a waterboiler and the bathroom was a decent size. Everything seemed really new.

Room Tip: Ask for the upper floor, the view seems a little more interesting.
