A typical good class RICA hotel- modern facilities, nicely warmed, comfortable rooms, nice dining room and pleasant staff. A bit chaotic at 1am checking in when the late plane arrived, but once settled in it was a welcome rest.

Breakfast is generous self serve style in a lovely dining room. On our visit the kitchen staff seemed somewhat stretched in trying to keep up the supplies to breakfast ... but on holidays ..it doesn't matter.

The hotel has several relaxation rooms, libraries, bar etc ..all very elegant and of the style of grand days gone by.

Some TripAdvisor contributors have commented that the hotel is 1km uphill from the town, which is true, but we find it a pleasant stroll after dinner and nice to be in a quiet spot.

Room Tip: Reception is on 1st floor. Ground floor rooms have easy access to the street, (great with heavy bags...

A brilliant hotel. Great customer service. So comfortable. You come back tired after a 5 hour hike and you enter the hotel and you feel the same relaxed feeling that you get when you walk into your house. The views from their lounge and the restaurant are amazing. We were in Longyearbyen to see the midnight sun and we saw it from the restaurant in the hotel. Highly recommend. It is well located, 10min walk from the coop I.e. the Center of town.

We stayed two nights, one night before a cruise and one after it. The original part of the hotel is historic, and reminded me of a large old ski lodge in many ways. The walls are covered in old photos, prints and maps, which adds to the atmosphere. It's not right in the centre of town, but it's only 10 minutes walk away - Longyearbyen's not that big. Our first room was in the old wing, our second in the new wing. Both were clean, well furnished and very comfortable. The breakfast (included in the room price) was excellent. The staff were outstanding; very pleasant and helpful at all times - ordering taxis, providing information on airport buses and trips, advising on eating options, etc. And they are clearly quite used to people waiting around in the hotel before check-in and after check-out. There's a lockable baggage room downstairs, which was very useful. Free internet, which did drop out occasionally, but was quite usable. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms are at the back and face the hill - not so much of a view. Even numbered rooms fa...

Located on a hill, this hotel has a lot of history. A well stocked library will satisfy any curious traveller and the bar is equally well stocked. The restaurant was surprisingly good. Rooms were basic, clean and comfortable. The town is walking distance.
Everything is expensive---but that is true of Norway !

The hotel is located on a hill in Longyearbyen Valley, only a few minutes’ walk from the “center” of town.
The check-in was quick, and so was the check-out. The reception area at the first floor was combined with a kind of souvenir and a limited convenience store with necessities for the environment.

From the old wing it is a nice view of Longyearbyen and the fjord, though my experience was that the single rooms in the wing was rather small and simple.
I was offered a double room in the new wing, which felt more comfortable. The room had all expected features, including a “mini-bar”. The bathroom had a bathtub and soap in dispensers.

The service-minded receptionist could book tours, and also the other staff could advise on places worth visiting.

A gym room at the ground floor had the necessary variety of equipment for basic exercising, and a sauna, The hotel has a very nice lounge and sitting area with a library and self-service coffee and tea, in addition to a bar. The breakfast had a good selection of self-serviced cold and warm dishes, and yoghurt with the essential supplements (muesli and nuts). Though the restaurant was rather filled up at times, it was never hectic.

This hotel is by no means "posh" nor was that our expectations. It has twin beds in the rooms and a nice bathroom. The buffet breakfast is very nice and so is the bar. The small gift shop has a few items that are by no means overpriced for Norway. By the way, everything in Norway is expensive.
