A really nice hotel. The only thing that was bothering me was the noice of a washing mashine in the mornings. We had the room next to cleaners storage.

The location is aswome, close to everithing, well Longyearbyen is not that big.

We stayed at Radisson SAS Polar Hotel for four nights, March 6-10 2009. We arrived in Longyearbyen after a 5 days roatrip between Bergen and Oslo. We were a group of four friends. Until then, we had always chosen the cheapest option for accommodation (family rooms in budget hotels), thus we had no expectations regarding the family apartment we had booked at Radisson! When we got there, they offered us ad upgrade (we have a 'Goldpoint Plus' card, and we could use our points). Instead of one small apartment, they offered us two superior rooms. The whole experience was great! Rooms were spacious and clean, with all the comforts you can find in the northest hotel in the world. Of course you should not expect the same features like in the big cities, but for being in such a difficult place, we had all we needed and much more - including free internet connection in the room. The hotel is in a perfect location, the lobby is nice and breakfast is great (believe us, this helps a lot when you spend the whole day outdoors at -10/-20 degrees). There is also a sauna, which is great to recover from the cold days. Staff is nice and always really helpful. Of course the price is quite high and value is not good if you compare it to continental Europe, but that's Norway!
The only recommendation we have is to avoid the restaurant in the hotel. Service is slow, food is good but portions are quite small. We preferred other simpler options in Longyearbyen.
We loved Svalbard and we loved Radisson SAS. We hope we'll be able to go back there soon!

It is difficult to judge this hotel only by quality of accommodation. If this one was situated anywhere else in the world it would be just another mid range hotel, but here at northern end of the world things are little different. In early Jan it was the only one open out of three in Longyearbyen. Hotel itself consists of main building and adjacent one where apartments, suits and Spitsbergen travel office are. We stayed at apartment which consists of bathroom with basic shower, kitchen, small room with two beds (one up, one down) and „living room“ with sofa bed and table. When we entered I had a feeling of luxurious dorm room, pretty basic and extremely hot. But then Svalbard is the last land before North Pole.
As our luggage didn’t arrive we asked for toothbrush and paste but they didn’t have any, they are supplied once a month by boat they said. Lunch we had was OK, typical hotel one, club sandwich, soup, desert for which we waited for quite long. It seems that early in Jan during 24 hrs night everything is slower. Hotel pub is nice place, whit much better choice of food and drinks.
Hotel staff was kind but they always put accent on „hey you are at the end of the world“attitude and it seemed to me that they use this quite often for excuse. For our activities we used Spitsbergen travel which was recommended by hotel. Snow mobile safari was great with fantastic guide (Svalbard Snoscooterutleie AS) but husky sledge trip was canceled due to unprofessional guide attitude who claimed that waited for us at the hotel for 15 min and left although we were in our rooms. They changed timing without notifying us on time and we were pretty disappointed. Village has 1800 inhabitants and up to 50 tourist at that time of the year so I guess it was not difficult to reach us. We used Basecamp Company next day for husky safari and I highly recommend them. Very professional team and great trip experience.
Overall hotel experience was much enhanced with „another planet“ feeling of Svalbard. Otherwise it was average mid range one.

Did a Solo trip to see the summer Artic and stayed here for a few nights. Beautiful view from hotel - especially in the midnight sun. Woken the 1st morning by a reindeer lowing outside my window! Warm and cozy and right in the centre of Longyearbyen. Very expensive - but this is Norway. Food was beautiful.

Hotel is located a short walk from the main shopping street, restaurants, museum and next door to a tour operator.
Our room was a standard room with two single beds on the ground floor so we didn't have much of a view as the snow was still quite high. The rooms are basic in appearance but it fits in with the remote location. Free wireless internet access is available in your room using your own laptop. Due to the layout of the hotel our room was a reasonable walk back to reception which meant a lot of shuffling around in your socks as you had to take off your shoes when inside the hotel.
The staff was great and extremely helpful and the breakfast included in the rate was good.
The hotel also had a pub which served bar meals and a restaurant. We ate in the pub a few times after a long day of snowmobiling or dogsledding.
Overall, the hotel was excellent and so was Svalbard!

Stayed at the Radisson 7th Aug 2008, as part of my pre accomodation for my Arctic Ship Expedtion. My room was lovely, I ended up with a Suite, complete with bathrobe and slippers. I swear the floors were heated, as they were nice and warm on cold bare feet.
The room was large , well set out and I had a great view of the Hills/Mountain with snow on top.
I only had two meals there, the buffet breakfast which was quite delicious and extensive and a Club sandwich which I bought for lunch, it was rather large, and not too exy!!!
After our Expedition had ended, it was back to the Radisson for coffee and somewhere warm to hang out as nothing in town was opened until 10am.
By the way, if you are looking for gifts, they do have lots to choose from at the Radisson, also at the supermarket they sell alcohol, buy the cans of beer called "Arctic Beer' they made terrific gifts also across the road and abit further up you can get these little Polar Bears that are fridge magnets with "Svalbard" on them..you know Fridge magnets are the new "Spoons'!!!
