“Perfect for couples.”
Reviewed 6 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The cottage is cosy and perfect for couples who wish to get away from it all. The gardens of the estate are lovely and you have direct access to the moors. I recommend it heartily.

“A hidden gem.SHH! Don't tell everyone, we want to book a return.”
Reviewed 11 August 2013 for a stay in September 2012

Stable Boys is a hidden gem!

The most beautiful and best bijou self catering accommodation cottage for two we have ever stayed in! (And we been some places) The decor and furnishings are enchanting, shabby chic par excellence, furniture and soft furnishings to die for! Comfy beds, fluffy pillows to ease you to sleep after a day out on foot or chilling. Tasteful cushions and throws. Fabrics to make you wilt! More fluffy towels and flannels than we could have used in a month. Bath products, hand cream and a huge bowl of cotton wool provided. Cleanliness is exceptional.

On arriving in Burton in Kendal, lunch at the local pub on route,(recommended) we drove through security gates, past the lodge and up through the parkland, avoiding cows, horses and peacocks, As we past ' the big house' in suddenly dawned on us we were staying in a cottage on a family owned estate! Not what we had expected when we booked in September 2012. The family down play this aspect on their web site, but what an amazing difference it makes!!!

In an instance our stay became magical! The cottage door was unlocked, key left in the latch, we walked in to a welcome pack of fine coffee, tea and biscuits. Cuppa in hand standing on the balcony of the upside down house we were greeted by peacocks! An hour later our warm welcome from Judy and Thomasina (and the boys) instantly made us feel at home and part of the family and the estate.

When at Stable Boys you have your own space, but the family give you access to their estate, including park land and woods to walk in. They are always there to support if needed and their estate manager is a real gem! He changed the tyre on our car when we had a flat. All part of the service!

Alongside giving visitors a unique holiday accommodation experience, Stable Boys is not as remote as it may appear on the web site and is ideally situated if you are a couple, who want to get away for a few days down time.

Good location for attractions, walking, wildlife, or if like us, you just want to chill, eat good food and relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. This area is not all about walking and has much to offer for all interests.

After our stay we have recommended to friends who have been to stay .All agree with our assessment. We were trying to keep quiet about our Hidden Gem, hence our delay in posting our review!

Hope to be back soon.

“a real home from home”
Reviewed 17 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

the hospitality of the boddy family was very much appreciated.we were made to feel so welcome and they were always on hand for advice on places to visit.we had the freedom to roam the beautiful gardens and surrounding lands with various walks that can be started from the house. the cottage came with some amazing wildlife including 2 beautiful peacocks who were a pleasure to spend time with.it was a great base from which to explore the lakes and the surrounding country side.fly and coarse fishing available close by.you must visit lowther castle!what an amazing place!the cottage is fine for two but they also have a lodge on the grounds that suits a family.we would definately return.
