Absolutely stunning place! We stayed in the Butler's Loft which is a lovely 1-bed apartment with an amazing view of the fields.

Very clean, very good facilities (DVD player, free WiFi, power shower, etc), very comfortable.

We will be staying here again for sure.

Room Tip: Butler's loft is up 2-3 flights of stairs so if you cannot walk up stairs don't choose this...

We stayed in Kirkoswald for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The two windows of the huge living room had superb views of the grounds and the countryside beyond (at the time of our visit there were lambs in the gardens which had strayed from the neighbouring fields). The apartment was spotlessly clean and the bathroom and kitchen, although not large were extremely well equipped. We liked the fact that it was slightly off the beaten track yet it was only a short drive to Penrith and there were plenty of villages and good pubs in close proximity. I would also add that the owners seemed to really care about their guests; prior to our stay they gave us useful advice and provided us with an additional heater due to the prolonged cold snap, although in the event we didn't need it.

We have just returned from a great 4 nights at Staffield Hall on our babymoon. The suite was just right for two, we stayed in the Butler's Loft, all the necessary equipment for self catering provided. I agree with the other reviews that at this time of year the suite was cold, but what would you expect in an old house. There were plenty of plug in heaters dotted about the building for us to use, and I have to say that after half an hour with one of those plugged in and we were very toasty. We couldn't hear the occupants in the other apartments at all, sometimes a problem in old buildings.

The location is remote, which is part of its charm, you definitely need a car to stay here, within a couple of miles in each direction there are some really lovely, friendly pubs offering great food and local beers (Fox & Pheasant, Featherstone Arms). The key code system for getting in works really well. The location is great, we spent a day in Carlisle and exploring Hadrian's wall and then two days in the lakes. Loads of other places to visit within a short distance as well. I recommend a visit to Coglin Toys in Lazonby if you get chance as well, amazing building, great toys and gifts.

We stayed in the Lady Tower and had a fantastic weekend. We walked in the South Lakes on the Saturday and mountain biked in the North Lakes on the Sunday- Whin Latter forest has amazing mountain bike trails and is only 40 minutes drive away if anyone looking at this is interested in mountain biking. The jet bath in the apartment was amazing and just what we needed after a day on the bikes! We did find it very, very cold though and it took a long while and the help of extra plug-in heaters to get warm. This is understandable though since it is such an old building and i loved reading the history of the place in the Welcome Book. It definitely did feel luxurious to us and I would recommend this accommodation to friends.

Thanks for the kind review, sorry you found the rooms a bit chilly. We've made some changes to the heating at the Hall to help improve for this and more planned. Coldest month ever didnt help, it's not previously been an issue in the 6 years we've had the hall but we will try and get on top of this.

We stayed in the Garden of Eden, the views from every room were beautiful, all amenities were ideal for self catering, ideally located for visiting the picturesque lakes and also visiting Carlisle for a bit of retail therapy. The only thing that was an issue was the temperature in the bedroom and lounge, it was cold, but the spa bath made up for this, would recommend Staffield Hall to a friend and just wish we had spotted the additional heaters located downstairs, all in all a great relaxing break and beautiful in the snow, thank you very much

The hall is definitely a get away from it all being around 15 mins drive from any shops. The rooms were nice although the furniture and fittings were definitely not what I would class as luxurious. The room was very cold and we needed a external heater to get warm. The Jacuzzi bath was very small. Also I am pretty sure its haunted. Without the discounted rooms this would've been massively over priced

We stayed in the Heavenfield apartment for 4 nights in between Christmas and New Year. The apartment was a very good size and had everything you could possible want. The furniture and fittings were a really high quality and although modern fitted in well with the period and style of the building. The key code entry system worked no problem, although we did find the main door open on a couple of occasions the second door was always locked tight. We spent our days exploring the surrounding areas and the apartment was a really great place to come back to in the evenings, really warm and homely. I would say that you do need a car if you stay here as the roads immediately around the house are narrow country lanes (as you would expect) but within 10 minutes you reach major ‘A’ roads and motorways. Just a couple of negatives: the bed was uncomfortable for us but that doesn’t mean that it would be for anyone else, I’m sure it would be impossible to find a mattress that suited every guest; also I think the bathroom of the apartment upstairs was directly above our bedroom as we could very clearly hear it been used during the night but I guess there isn’t much that can be done about soundproofing in an old building. The positives of Staffield Hall far outweigh the negatives: It’s in a great location for exploring the Lake District and even the Scottish Borders; the house and grounds are beautiful; we instantly felt ‘at home’ there and you’ll find it very difficult to get that much luxury in that price range anywhere else in Cumbria.

Room Tip: The Heavenfield apartment has great views of the gardens and the countryside beyond.
