“Good value, great staff but no room upgrades for dog owners!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Previously part of the Barcello group the Redworth now flies the Puma banner.Sadly, Leisure Group members with dogs no longer get free room up-grades and our room on floor 3 involved a long walk each time our Westie needed to go out. The room, albeit dated, was large and deserved a larger double bed with more comfy pillows but, most importantly it was very quiet at all times despite the fact that several major functions were taking place during our three night stay. The grounds are extensive and ideal for dog walking. Dogs are also allowed in all downstairs areas except, of course. the main restaurant. Food in the restaurant was much better then expected and the menu changed each night of our stay. The rump steak I chose one night was well worth the £5.00 supplement. The staff are terrific and without exception were friendly, efficient and well motivated. Seversal made a big fuss of our dog which was lovely. Our pre-paid booking during a Puma on-line promotion meant our stay represented excellent value for money. Finally, a big thank you to all the wonderful staff who made my wife and I plus our little dog, feel so welcome. Lets hope on our next visit Puma might have had a re-think on room upgrades for dog owners!

I am glad to hear that overall your stay was enjoyable, and I am ever so happy to hear about the performance of the staff. I do apologise about the issue regarding your room upgrade. Unfortunately there are only selected rooms that can be allocated for dogs due to allergies.

Beautiful hotel and setting unfortunately staff complacent when faced with complaints. Quality and standard of food very disappointing avoid the breakfast buffet as the food so called hot food is cold.

A very nice hotel with friendly and pleasant staff. The bedroom, although quite a walk from the lift was just what we needed for a relaxing few days, very clean and well decorated. The meals we had in the bar and the restaurant were of a very good quality and even though on 1 of the nights the restaurant seemed to be short staffed it didnt affect the service we received. We went into the pool, my partner under duress, but even so we both felt as though it was a lovely area to relax and it finished off a lovely few days and we would both recommend this hotel.

Our stay at the Hall did not start well – although it was only ~5:30 when we arrived, we couldn’t get a table in the restaurant until 9pm so had to eat elsewhere (see my review of the George & Dragon, Heighington) and were told that the pool would be shut for maintenance on our 3rd day. Also, we’d booked for 3 nights but because of the quirky nature of the Secret Escapes offer we’d had to book it as separate 2 night & 1 night bookings but the receptionist couldn’t (wouldn’t?) let us have the same room for all three nights unless we paid to upgrade our 2 night booking!
Our 1st room was in the attic of the old building and even though the radiator was off, it was incredibly hot with exposed heating pipes round 2 sides of the room – there was a fan in the room so it’s clearly a known problem but with both the skylight windows open and the fan running flat-out, by the time we got back from dinner it had cooled down enough to make sleep a possibility albeit with the fan running all night. Other than the temperature, the room was actually very nice, being a good size with a king size bed, a couple of comfy chairs and a large bathroom with Jacuzzi bath & good shower. We left the skylights open &fan running when we headed out the next day but fortunately the heating had been turned off so the temperature was much more comfortable when we got back.

After the “unfortunate” start, this isn’t a bad hotel – breakfast is the normal “conference hotel buffet” but there is a good selection of both hot & cold items whilst our dinners on our 2nd & 3rd nights were quite tasty though they did let themselves down a bit on the 3rd night – having apologised for only having white bread rolls at the start of our meal (& again ~15min later when I asked for another), it was a bit odd when the same waitress was later heard to offer a choice of white or brown to diners on a neighbouring table! The wine selection was also reasonably priced.

What did endear the hotel to us was the friendliness of the staff, whilst so many places these days run on staff shipped-in from East Europe, the bulk of Redworth’s seem to be locals and many had been at the Hall for some time. Other than the (temporary?) receptionist when we arrived, everyone else appeared to want to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, exemplified when it came to our changing rooms when we were told “just leave everything on the bed & go & enjoy yourselves” – We did!

I suppose the bottom line is always “Would you go back” and the answer is Yes

This Hotel is grand and beautiful, it was a wonderful experience staying there. All the staff I met were friendly, happy and helpful. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable The meals were very good, and the hour long facial I had was worth every penny. I will certainly go again the stay was very good value.

Recently spent the night at this wonderful hotel, made very special by the attentiveness of staff and very good facilities, enormous room and very luxurious bed - would definitely recommend for a lovely break from the norm.

We had a lovely 2 night stay. Food was great, staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel room in the old part of the hotel was very spacious and clean with loads of character, well worth the upgrade! One thing I would recommend is if you are hoping to have a massage or any treatments in the spa make sure you book well in advance as there were no spaces available for us all weekend.
