On arrival in Diss our satnav had taken us to the front of the hotel but when we tried the door it was locked. The downstairs front windows had their curtains closed which gave us the worrying impression that the hotel had closed down. Another couple approached the door, tried to get in then walked away. There were only 2 spaces for cars at the front so we decided to move and find somewhere else to park so, with the hotel on our left hand side, we turned left at the end of the road to find, to our relief, a car park belonging to the hotel and outdoor seating area with a door leading into the reception and bar! Reception staff explained to us that there was a special health screening event going on which is why the front door was locked and the front downstairs curtains were closed! You would have thought that someone would have put a notice up at the front to explain and to direct new customers round the back!! There wasn't even a sign saying that there's a car park at the back. We were unable to check in an hour early as staff were busy serving food in the bar/restaurant but that was understandable. When we did check in we were shown to a room which far exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, very comfortable and nicely decorated with a good sized bathroom although the view was of a flat roof with trees in the distance. We had evening meal in the restaurant where customer service was excellent, the steaks were some of the best we have ever had. Later we had drinks in the bar where we also received excellent service and the choice of beverages was very good. Breakfast was ok with bacon, mushrooms, etc. being cooked to order but were swimming in grease. The location is reasonably good on the outskirts of Diss with approximately 5 minutes walk to the Mere and 10 minutes to the town centre. All in all we had a very good stay at this hotel and it did exceed our expectations after a poor first impression.

Stayed at The Park for 2 nights as part of a 20 yr reunion. Chose The Park given the good reviews on trip advisor. Initial impressions can be deceiving with a tired and dated reception area.... However, The Park hotel got the most important things right, the food, beer and friendliness/helpfulness of the staff. Thanks to the Park hotel for making the reunion a great night.

We visited this hotel to meet family who were staying there on Wednesday night. We were very
impressed with the menu and opted for the three course choice of menu with coffee all included for £20 per head. We found the food to be very good and the staff were very friendly. Our relatives also found the hotel very comfortable and again breakfast very good and would definitely stay there again.
