This hotel is... a mass of contradictions. It was really quite expensive for a 2 star hotel... but let me elaborate on the detail. I'll start with breakfast as an example. I was greeted with a dining room used as a store for bicycles, children's playthings and meeting room chairs and a minimal Youth Hostel style buffet of Tupperwared Orange Juice and Cornflakes. BUT this was followed by an excellent full English cooked breakfast and nice coffee! My room was adequate but untidy (ironing board and fan on the floor etc.) and smelt of cigarette smoke. BUT the bedlinen was pristine. The shower was excellent BUT a lack of frosted glass or some curtains made it difficult to use without exposing oneself to the entire carpark - particularly after dark. Free WiFi was fine and fast - after entering the longest password I have ever encountered - BUT the TV crackled and hissed as if complaining that I had dared to switch it on! The staff were extremely nice and helpful - and my thanks for that. No BUTs here. The hotel had a notice warning guests that refurbishment was under way and to expect some strange odours !!! BUT I did actually manage to enjoy my stay... would I recommend this hotel? - well, yes, just, BUT...

Hi
We stayed at the Wensum Lodge hotel last weekend for a wedding. It was an awful experience. The hotel was dirty and dark. Our bedrooms were not cleaned or beds made or changed for the full 3 days that we were there. On the morning of our last day I had a glass of orange juice at breakfast which I realised (after I had had a sip) was coated in flies across the bottom of the juice. when I complained to the waiter he said 'oh dear' and took it away and poured it back into the juice carton.

Typical pub type hotel. Room OK and bed linen spotlessly clean. En Suite tiny but excellent shower. Creaky floor boards and walls wafer thin, so you can hear what your neighbours are up to. Breakfasts were excellent. Staff very helpful. Thought the price of £85 Per Night B&B for a double was a tad over the top !

Convenient for Thursford. Hotel will arrange taxis

I am cautious on online booking and rely on recommendations so it was with some trepidation on this hotel because the reviews were either awful or excellent.

I am happy to say that i am glad we went. The food was good, service good and facilities good. It was not a mind blowing experience but very solid and reliable. Though perhaps expensive at £90 for a weekend away and a base to explore the area this hotel is excellent.

Also very accommodating on late meals - all other reastaurants stopped serving earlier. So ignore the 3 ratings on this hotel it is well worth it.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Wensum Lodge. And I was disappointed. To be sure, the setting is magnificent alongside the river and externally, the hotel as a converted mill looks the business. Inside it does not live up to its promise. The hotel seems to have several entrances, each one with a note on it telling new guests to go somewhere else.. a bit confusing! Reception is actually in the bar itself. It was good that I was not just pointed in the direction of a room but was actually taken up there by a member of staff.. We did have to step over previous night's old laundry in the corridors (and this was 5pm). Room itself (Room 14) was OK, nothing special, standard fare. It was clean though decor was a little tired. I cannot comment on the restaurant but breakfast was limited. Full English, beans on toast or egg on toast. And at the buffet cornflakes, weetabix and orange juice only (which on one day was actually empty and needed a request for some more). This might seem like a small thing, but I would have expected a wider range in 2006. Although OK, this reminded me of an adequate hotel of 20 years ago. The thing is, times have moved on. When I checked out and paid by debit card, on being told the amount payable I was asked if I wanted to add a tip. This was a question that should not have been asked. I declined!... Would I go back?... Doubtful.

whole appearance of the Hotel a little tired and in need of some attention.

Dead plants in the window, front door held together with tape.

Hotel room freezing cold-bed linen and room were clean though. Bed a little narrow for a double, I thought we had checked into a single!!

Cooked breakfast was good.

Notice the Funeral directors next door upon leaving--maybe we did spend the night in the Chapel of Rest!!
