“Busy cafe with some home cooked food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

We have had a couple of snacks here, the home made soup is good but it is a shame it is spoil t with a very below average bread roll, it is not difficult these days to get decent rolls. Overall it is a easy place to have a lunch or snack.

“Well, I was disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2013

Sorry to rain on the parade, but I wasn't impressed by my latest visit to Shapes (or the one before for that matter).

The good: the atmosphere is lively and the decor is cheerful, if a bit stark. The pasta bake was tasty and the scones do look very fine. The soy and sesame salad dressing is a nice touch, though there's no alternative if you prefer mayonnaise or salad cream. Free Wifi (with no registration or password malarkey) is much appreciated, and the children's play area is a great idea.

The bad: I don't mind a bit of a wait at busy times, and this was a Saturday lunchtime. But it was a long wait and the food cannot have been freshly cooked – as advertised – because it was cold. The salad was the usual tasteless iceberg lettuce and unripe tomatoes. The salad dressing comes in a bottle that's almost impossible to mix and pour from. The teapot was the worst pourer I've ever seen, and that is saying something. The bouncy floor is a bit offputting.

It's all perfectly bearable, and this is after all a department store cafe. For coffee and a scone it would be fine. But four stars? No way.

“never disappointed”

often pop in when out and about. They are still the best in town for scones and their midday meals are a treat, all home cooked, thankfully they haven't gone over to panini style lunches and nothing else.

“Scones!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

Whenever we are in Fakenham we always visit Shapes for scones and coffee. Large fruit and large cheese scones plus two coffees all for £4.90!! We travel to many different areas and without any doubt these are the very best scones we have ever tasted. Wherever we go we invariably sit with scones and coffee and make the same remark, namely, 'If only they could have a few lessons from the staff at Shapes'. Most of the coffee shops near our home in The Scottish Borders charge in excess of £7.00 for the equivalent! Congratulations to the staff - keep up the good work!
(Unfortunately, we have no need for a full meal, but the food always look good).

“Lovely fresh food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2013

We just popped here for a coffee and cake but really nice and everything was fresh.
Spotless restaurant and it was busy with people that obviously came often as staff knew them.
Really friendly staff who make you feel very welcome.
Will definitely try one of their main meals next time.
