“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

We stayed in the ensuite family room which was lovely. Spotlessly clean and furnished in keeping with the beautiful old house. The room was lovely and warm despite it being February!Breakfast was excellent and Lynda was very attentive without being intrusive. We visited a local pub in Hunsworth that Lynda recommended for dinner one evening. Very peaceful location and would highly recommend for a relaxing holiday. Nice to wake hearing the farmyard noises including the cockerel which is what you expect when staying on a working farm! Hope to visit again.

We had the family room for 2 nights and it suited us fine as a couple. Breakfasts were very good and location is suited us well for our holiday to the Norfolk coast. Would use again.

We loved it at Hempstead Hall. It's a lovely big old house with a big rambling field setting, ducks geese guines fowl, donkey and pony, and a friendly dog. Lynda is a natural host who is very welcoming and the breakfast is good. It was the cheapest B&B we encountered in Norfolk but I liked it the most.
We had the room with the private bathroom and I would definitely recommend asking for this: I don't know how I would feel about a shared bathroom. This room is at the end of the corridor so is very private. Both bathroom and bedroom were old fashioned, it's true, with bath not shower: however, both were roomy, spotlessly clean, and I much preferred this proper big bathroom to a steamed-up cubicle crammed with glass and chrome as you get in 'modernised' places. I personally found it refreshing that Lynda has not felt pressured to update for the sake of it when the old stuff is functional, comfortable and of good quality, and it gives a cosy feeling of being in a genuine old farmhouse.
Only two minor negatives: one, the doors to bedroom and bathroom cannot be shut without causing a loud bang so it is impossible to nip to the loo without waking your partner, unless you sleep with the door ajar, and two, it is not walking distance to any pub or restaurant. There are plenty of places within a few miles but you have to drive.
All in all this suited us down to the ground and we would definitely choose it again. Thanks for having us!

Room Tip: Ask for the one with a private bathroom.

Nice welcome. We had bedroom with seperate bathroom ahem the bath is in dire need of resurfacing or removal and large shower put in. This is 1st farm stay we have stayed at that has not had complimentary biscuits included. Television could have had larger screen 22inch instead of 14 inch. Bedroom door lock could be better you had to slam shut so did not feel like going out in evenings as did not want to upset other guesta with door slamming.

Thank you for your comments. I’m very sorry that you were not happy with your stay. I do endeavour to welcome my guests and give them a happy, relaxing, comfortable stay whilst they are with us.
As I mentioned to you when you were here the hard water and cleaning products have dulled the bath, but as you know it was spotlessly clean.
I have checked the manual and also measured the screen and I can guarantee that the TV has a 19inch screen. It is a brand new flat screen TV with Freeview and when buying it I gave the size a lot of thought and felt that a larger screen would be intrusive to the room.
Hempstead Hall is a very old house with character and thus has old doors. I have checked and your bedroom door can easily be closed quietly, no other guests have ever mentioned having a problem with it. No one has ever complained about another guest closing a door.
I agree that biscuits were needed on the trays and these have been added now that I have found a supplier of individually wrapped biscuits. We have provided them in the past but very few guests ate them and they tended to go soft.
Kind regards
Lynda

Stayed here last week, and do not know what the person below is on about. The House is impressive and recently decorated. Yes, you get a bath not a shower, but it is a B&B not a hotel! You are staying in someones house, not going to the Ritz.

The breakfast was made with local ingredients - eggs from the farm chickens, tomato from their greenhouse, and bacon and sausage from another local farm.

Walks were enjoyed on the farm, and Mrs Mack could not do enough to help us choose where to go and see. We even spotted a red deer and a buzzard.

The farmyard itself was fairly clean and tidy compared to other farms we have stayed on and we enjoyed watching Mrs Mack's husband working the field.

The farm is about 2 miles from Holt. We went shopping in bakers a famous department store and had lovely tea and cakes in byfords - where I believe you can stay too but if you are on a larger budget.

All in all we loved our time down on the farm, and were made to feel very welcome.

Spent a weekend at Hempstead Hall in June and were incredibly disappointed with the standard of accomocation. To house itself is very grand and a lovely building in lovely countryside on a farm but the rooms are in serious need of decoration and modernisation. On arrival we were guided to our room which had an adjacent bathroom (not en suite) for our private use. We had been warned about this on booking so were expecting this. What we weren't expecting was a very small bath and no shower of any kind. Instead a plastic kitchen measuring jug was provided so you could wash your hair. What was also inconvenient was that while the bathroom and toilet were in a separate room the wash basin was in the bedroom so you had to go through a strange process of shaving (for the boys) in the room before heading to the bathroom for a bath and then possibly back to the bedroom to wash hands after using the toilet. Don't expect any added extras - complementary toiletries consisted of a big bottle of Morrison's bubble bath and an unwrapped/already used by previous guest bar of soap (who know's where that might have been). The website says that this accomodation has been graded as a 4 star farmhouse - i certainly can't see how this can be accurate given the lack of showers. This place has huge potential if a bit of money was spent on the rooms and the setting is lovely.
