Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We both had eggs Arlington. Perfectly cooked poached eggs a generous portion of a very tasty smoked salmon. Could not fault the food or service. The shops have an excellent selection of cheese, wine, meat, breads, sauces, spices, oils and more.

We always stop here when visiting NN and Holt in particular so we’re concerned about some recent poor reviews. Whilst I don’t doubt they are genuine some contained misinformation about change of ownership. Seems like the closure through the summer was for kitchen upgrade and...nothing else. Our visit provided us with perfect breakfast, great service and good coffee at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.More

Graham, thank you for your positive review. We closed briefly in the summer due to needing to change the structure of the cafe. Simpler and focusing on what we do best, Breakfast & Brunch.

Sadly this was the last time we shall visit Back to the Garden. Living locally we have been here many times over the years for both breakfast and lunch and have taken many people there who always lived it too. We were so disappointed in...the summer when it was closed, hardly a good business decision by the new owner. But when we visited after it had reopened we were appalled. There were only two staff on; we had to queue for half an hour; only basics on a blackboard menu; the atmosphere was terrible. How could somewhere that had been thriving have been allowed to be turned into such a terrible place to eat. Having seen that yet again it had been closed we returned in October to give it one last chance. We went for breakfast. Whist the service was good we were so disappointed by the food. Whist the poached eggs were cooked perfectly my partner had to cut the toast for me as it was so hard. His sausage sandwich was in thick white bread the latter of which was tasteless. It is so sad not to be able to go to a place we used to love. How easy it is to ruin what was excellent.More

We picked this place for lunch en route to kelling Heath as I’d read a new menu would be in operation after a lengthy time. The promised brunch menu wasn’t available at all, just an all day breakfast until 3pm and a couple of other...options. We reluctantly decided on the breakfast. The bacon was over cooked and the sourdough toast so hard that I just couldn’t break it at all. The rest was just ok and on the pricey side. The only saving grace was the excellent coffee. The farm shop was very good but the cafe, although beautifully done, won’t attract us again I’m afraid.More

Beautiful building. The food was nice and a decent cup of tea once the dirty cup was changed. Having had a chat with a staff member regarding the cobwebs with dead insects above our table, I recommend a good clean and cobweb throughout. Table service...would be nicer than going to the bar to order, the staff may then not look so bored and interact with the customers a bit more. Will return to see if anything changes.More

Stopped in here on the way back from a week away. Initial impressions were that it looks nice, but that’s where the fun stops. We were immediately greeted in a mildly hostile manner, advised we are to order at the bar. To me, all this...said was “buy something before you use the facilities”. We looked for somewhere to sit down with our baby to feed her - first table, filthy and dusty. Moved to another, filthy and dusty. Staff totally inattentive. We found the one clean table in the establishment and I went to order at the bar as instructed - would it have been too much trouble for the staff to come and take an order? The body language said it all. We ordered a sausage cob and a salmon bagel. These were served in under three minutes, so the first alarm bell was ringing - these aren’t freshly made! The sausage was drier than the desert - clearly left on a hot plate all morning. Wouldn’t mind but it’s 9.30am and there’s only one other table in here, why was it not freshly made? I’ve had better roadside cobs for a fraction of the cost and taste far nice. Sausage bland, bread stale, no butter. Salmon - bread was freezing cold and dry, had definitely been pre made and left in a fridge overnight. Overall taste wasn’t bad but totally ruined by the bread being ice cold and dry. Apple juice - from a can. Can’t complain. £20 though for two sandwiches and two cans of pop - you expect more. Staff so inattentive. Tables are filthy and they’re just stood chatting. Wanted to visit the farm shop but don’t wish to give this poor establishment any more money - you’ve already had enough charging extortionate rates for sub par food. Absolutely do not recommend. Might be fine for the yummy mummy’s who enjoy overpaying for mediocrity, but this place will sink if they carry on like this. Do not come here. Save your money.More
