Bears Fish and Chips

Fish and chips are very good here, don't get me wrong.

However, the vinegar is watered down, the ketchup is charged at 10p a sachet (you need at least two sachets to make up a good equivalent squeeze of a Heinz bottle) and the general feel of the place is that of somewhere where the customer comes after the colour of their money. Signs everywhere saying 'clean up after yourself' ... Quite happy to do this but don't need to be patronised before I've even sat down to eat.

Wish we had tried one of the other places.

We had set our hearts on fish and chips but had Dylan the dog in tow and didn't fancy eating outside in a howling gale. Bears to the rescue! Not only do they provide somewhere to eat, they allow 'good dogs' in one area of the shop. This is not really a restaurant - you eat the delicious fish n chips with a diddy plastic fork out of the polystyrene box - but you are only paying takeaway prices. They even gave Dylan a bowl of water. Friendly service and great grub. Try it!

We went in with our family. We were turned away as my partner had no top.on. That is perfectly acceptable. However, we made our order before this pointed out and had our drinks, that had came directly from the fridge on the counter. As we were walking out, the owner followed shouting at us to pay for one of the drinks. We assures them it wasn't one of our children and advised him to check his fridges better. This was answered with sarcasm and was all starting to get a bit silly and embarrassing. We paid and left in a hurry much to our dismay. I am local and will be advising all I know, never to use this restaurant. Disgusting.

Well thank goodness for tripasvisor! We would probably have not gone here if not for the reviews online, warning us about the decor but saying how good the food was. I'm pleased to say they were right. Decor and frontage def not great, the whole place could do with a bit of a clean, but they do have a 4 star cleanliness rating. Food however was lovely, fish cooked fresh and overall taste great. Sometimes fish and chips can be a bit disappointing on the seafront. I'm pleased to say this was not one of those times.
