“pleasant confortable stay”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Comfortable hotel . Staff very friendly . Adequate parking. On road to North Norfolk coast
Food excellent though perhaps different restaurant and bar menus would be helpful- bar one quick and cheaper , while restaurant for more relaxed meal
All rooms on ground floor, Each pair of rooms separate but with a common hallway, almost like motel. Would be good for families who could choose one door with 2 rooms.

Would certainly visit again

Room Tip: Can walk to the beach but North Norfolk coast seems to have a constant arctic wind so wrap up !

Thank you Kay863 for your review.

We are glad that we appear to have ticked most of the boxes for an enjoyable stay, we do offer a lighter bar menu from 12-6pm however I will pass on your suggestions to the head chef for his consideration so thank you.

A large percentage of our rooms are ground floor however I will just mention we do have some first floor rooms just in case anyone specifically requires one we always recommend mentioning this upon booking.

We hope your travels will lead you back to us again in the future.

Booked last minute for the bank holiday, stayed 1 night (2 adults and our two young daughters). Got upgraded when we arrived to family unit accommodation which meant we had one front door but two separate bedrooms - brilliant. Ate dinner in the restaurant which was delicious - unusual to find a decent adult menu plus good kids options as normally one is a compromise. Found everyone very welcoming and accommodating. Great for kids as there’s toys in the bar area plus a wendy house outside. The accommodation was great, in small chalet type cottages accessed from outside so perfect for families. Breakfast was well organised with lots of choice. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back, hopefully for a longer break next time!

Room Tip: Family unit rooms are great if you have two or three kids.

We thank you for taking the team to leave us such a glowing review, we often try to upgrade when possible in an attempt to exceed our customers expectations as we find the little things can make a big difference.

We hope you will revisit soon.

My room was recently refurbished and clean, simple and bright. There is a strong light right outside and I woke at 3am thinking it was morning (I'm not exaggerating!) They need some blackout blinds. The wifi didn't work in the room but I didn't do anything about it as I was out for the evening and only staying one night. I had a single brandy at the bar when I came back to the hotel (Hennesy XO) which was charged at £16.60. This seems excessive when you can but a bottle for £120 and it contains 20 single measures. I ate at the Lodge Hotel just up the road and it was very good.

Incidentally, looking at the pictures I expected a country house hotel. In fact the accommodation is in sort of brick built chalets that reminded me of a motel.

Room Tip: If you need Wifi, ask in advance for a room with a good signal. Look out for bright lights outside y...

Thank you pauldlf for taking the time to leave us a review.

All of the lights in the surrounding courtyard are meant to be run on a timer switch and go off long before 3 o'clock So I apologise if for some reason they were still on then as you say they were, I will ensure this is looked into.

Our Website does specifically state that our WiFi is only guaranteed in the public areas, (Bar / Lounge etc), we are looking to improve this service when possible however our location is a major factor in this but we are aware it is a growing demand.

We do indeed sell Hennesy XO at £16.60 a shot, this is by far the most extravagant price we offer for any of our drinks at the bar, what particularly alarms me about this comment is being the same person who served you on the evening in question I made a point of ensuring you were aware of the cost before pouring, we make a habit of this to avoid unwelcome surprises in the morning when guests see their bill, you stated you were happy to pay the price therefore I find it a bit unfair for this to be noted as a negative. There are a number of much cheaper, but perfectly acceptable alternatives available.

We stayed here as it was the only dog friendly hotel we could find available for a last minute break on the Norfolk coast over Easter. It lives up to its 3 stars but is definitely no more than this.
The rooms are ok but the bathrooms are tired. The staff were friendly and breakfasts ok but the whole experience is really like being at a holiday camp or caravan park. If you have dogs, they are very welcome here and can be left in the rooms and taken into the bar. All in all, nothing bad with our stay but nothing to make you want to rush back either.

Thank you for your review.

We have undertaken a large refurbishment this year on a number of rooms to update our rooms and bathrooms, this a gradual process but we are making good process as we speak.

We are sorry you haven't appeared to have enjoyed your experience as much as we would have liked you to, we certainly wouldn't consider ourselves as a holiday camp or caravan park but of course everyone is entitled to their own perception.

With regards to dogs we do have pet friendly areas as you mention which are very popular and try to keep restrictions to a minimum however there are of course pet free rooms and restaurant too.

It's very average... we asked for flowers and they got it wrong - really poor (yes ordering flowers in the room is unusual but it was a special occasion and they offered it as a service - don't bother!). The layout of the hotel is unusual - the restaurant is positioned in the most boring and uninteresting location. No personality at all. A simple request to eat Sunday lunch in the bar (which has slightly more ambiance), was refused . The whole place is... well very average... 5/10. There is a place up the road / 200 yards called 'The Lodge'... go there instead. We just spent 550 for 3 nights... yep FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS. Yep we are idiots!! It was Easter, and we did have a Junior Suite (please do not choose H6 as it is extremely noisy and has sky lights , yes that means light arrives early and also there is a room above and every step is heard. ... so no sleeping in). Also on a personal comment we were not not well /vomitted soon after breakfast yesterday we could not put it down to the 'scrambled eggs' but try them at your peril, If you do stay here perhaps do not eat there... there is a pub about a 5 minute walk called the Ancient Mariner - also the Lodge's food was excellent. So be careful as it is 'average' and your money may be best kept in your pocket or spent elsewhere. We understand why there were rooms available but everywhere else was full. 5/10 Average, average, average...

Room Tip: do not select H6

Thank you NikkiEssexEngland for you review, I will break down the review and reply in turn.

Firstly the issue with the flowers, I can only apologise for this, we normally receive exceptional service from our florist however we did agree that the flowers you received were not up to the standard expected, we did acknowledge this and removed the charge from your bill as way of an apology, I reiterate however this is the first complaint we have ever received about such an instance and have been assured that it will not occur again.

"The restaurant is positioned in the most boring and uninteresting location" - We are open to ideas where we should move it to but find that in a central position of the hotel is fairly convenient for most guests.

H6 does indeed have 2 skylights situated in the ceiling, on the table directly below there is a remote control for the blinds which cover them to stop the early morning sun coming through, it is a shame this wasn't mentioned during the 3 night stay as someone would have happily come over and shown you how to operate the 2 buttons. (Open & Close).

Our restaurant food receives a lot of praise both for the breakfasts and dinners, we did have over 80 guests per night who all had breakfast and no one else has reported any illness so I think we can rule out the scrambled eggs or any other food served.

We genuinely are disappointed that you did not enjoy your time here with us at Caley Hall, we strive to make every single guests visit special, obviously we have failed you on this occasion and apologise profusely for this.

For other Tripadvisor members reading through our reviews I feel i should point out our 3 previous reviews which had us at Excellent, Excellent & Very good which would all imply we are indeed better than "Average".

Stayed at Caley Hall for one night and it was just great. Room was spacious and enough room for two people and a dog. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff, and the food was fantastic. Ten out of ten. Should be a four star hotel.
