“Fantastic hideaway hotel!”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

If you are expecting the usual bland hotel decor this is not for you, Strattons is a wonderful exercise in eclectic furnishing, warm ambience and a truly amazing experience in this little Norfolk market town. Stayed for a night as a birthday treat and loved it - as I only live about 30 minutes away, we will be back for Sunday lunch and another overnight stay in funky surroundings whenever we feel like it! Loved the ancient Siamese cats as I always have at least one of these lovely creatures in my life - latest is Grace, aged 4 months. Elephantmummy.

Room Tip: Look on the website - they are all different. We had The Boudoir - bit like a French chateau!

Delicious food which really makes the most of our great Norfolk produce. The atmosphere is really great, relaxing slightly quirky and attentive staff. A real hidden gem already thinking of an excuse to return.

I was taken here as a surprise for my birthday last weekend and what a beautiful place. Upon arrival were upgraded to a suite instead of a room which was a nice surprise! The décor of the hotel is quirky but very warming and stylish. The staff couldn't do enough for you and the food really is excellent. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try the Opium Suite - it is stunning!!

Small quirky boutique Hotel, with a warm welcome by Bert the cat.Which seemed entirely appropriate for such an individual hotel.
The staff are attentive without being in the least bit pretentious and friendly.
Our room was in one of the rooms across the courtyard garden,as such it was nice and quiet.
But then the whole hotel was very civilised.
Our evening meal and breakfast were excellent without fault.
I also like there efforts to help the environment and there own organic shower get is divine.
On the weekends you are served breakfast in the hotel, during the week it's in the deli cafe.
The only improvement I would like is a choice of tea and a box of tissues.

Room Tip: The suites are a lovely size and some have outdoor areas.

I reviewed Strattons when I first visited in 2010 and have been back 4 times since and every time has been perfect. This is a small hotel with some rooms inside and others set in the grounds, some of which take dogs and some of which are self catering. Every room is completely different and there are pictures of all of them on the website to help you choose. The smaller rooms are lovely but the suites are really amazing. I've stayed in Opium which is in the grounds and has a free standing bath in the bedroom and a little lounge downstairs and most recently stayed in Boudior which was wonderfully over the top with it's paintings and chandeliers, roll top bath and quaint little view of the rooftops of Swaffham.
The staff here are great, very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, they really seem to care about the hotel and it's customers.
The food is also good, nice little restaurant with log fire, local good quality ingredients as you would expect. On quieter mornings breakfast is served is their own little deli cafe, Cocoes and it's well worth taking a couple of their sausage rolls home with you!
Oh and they have cats! 3 of them in the hotel, great if you love cats like we do as they do love to curl up on your bed with you :)
Can't wait until my next visit.

Dear Reviewer, thank you so much for taking the trouble to write such an informative review about Strattons, I know the detail makes such a difference to travelers. Please seek me out next time you are in as it would be lovely to say hello. The sausage rolls made in our Cafe/Deli from local rare breed Scotts Field Pork also caught the attention of comedian Al Murray who took a large takeaway box of them away! Very best regards Vanessa Scott

From the moment we arrived at Stratton's, the lovely staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. From showing us to our suite to serving cocktails in the lounge and dinner in the restaurant, they couldn't have been better.

We booked the hotel for a one night chilled out stay following New Year's Eve and the Opium suite was perfect for this. Pick a film from the hotel's extensive DVD library, eat the homemade chocolate biscuits left on your pillow and watch it from the nice big bath at the end of the bed!

Cocktails in the lounge in front of the open fire was the ideal way to relax before dinner and take time to read the extensive wine list. Dinner and breakfast the following morning was delicious and really couldn't be faulted.

Dear Amanda, how lovely to hear you had such a good time staying at Strattons and such a great review from your perspective in the Opium Room-makes me want to book in with my husband despite being my place of work! We love to hear that we've given our guests a good time because it really makes everyone's job so meaningful. I hope you enjoy trying some of the other rooms, we would love to see you again, best regards Vanessa Scott

Dear David, thank you so much for taking the trouble to review Strattons on Trip Advisor; your comments mean so much to all the team. We are just working on a new bar and Spring Menu for hopefully your next visit. Please let me know if I can help you with any information on the area; despite living here for 23 years we still keep uncovering some great experiences-today a walk around Santon Downham with the Breckland Society to take in a Bronze age burial mound, Viking grave, site of the 9th century St Helen's chapel and well, all within the forestry setting. Happy new year, Vanessa (vanessascott1@gmail.com)
