“High end B&B and superb food”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

Me and my partner had reason to stay locally due to undertaking some business in the area.
The George is located in a pretty village and it's little wonder it is popular because of the top quality food served up here. The owners and staff all have their finger firmly on the pulse when it comes to customer service and were extremely accommodating and friendly.
The building dates back to 16th century so a few creaky floorboards and head bruising alcoves to negotiate when staying here but that all adds to the charm of the place. Good parking, continual hot water, modern decor that sits well in it's older surroundings and a bar area that doesn't limit you to your bedroom is staying here.
Check this out - Real filter coffee in the rooms, that's a first and possibly a last so no skimping like you find at many other B&B's.
Would highly recommend The George and have it in my locker for when we return to the area.

I had occasion to stay here overnight on a last-minute basis on business (chose The George due to location, very reasonable accommodation cost and glowing reviews) and was very impressed. Cavendish is an attractive village and parking is available directly outside the building. The check-in was quick and friendly and I was shown to my room (Rm 1) within a couple of minutes of arrival. The beamed room was a good size, nicely decorated and well equipped with an ensuite bathroom up a couple of steps on a different level. I found the free wifi reception strong. Had a delicious meal in the charming restaurant which had a very decent choice of a la carte or set menu options . The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept exceptionally well and although I was the only resident, felt totally at ease. The hot water supply was constant in the evening and morning and the choice and quality at breakfast, far more than I could have expected for the price I paid. Would certainly return and am really pleased I chose to stay here - thank you to the staff at The George.

This was our second stay at The George in Cavendish on the fantastic Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate. Cannot fault the food or the service at this Inn. My meal comprised of Tiger Prawns (too delicious to accurately describe), Rump of Lamb (just superb) followed by Orange Blossom Cheesecake (accompanied by the best Turkish Delight I've ever tasted!). I also tasted my husband's choices too - fantastic Pigeon Breast, Steak and Creme Brulee - all amazing. Sorry if I sound like a walking menu, but when you taste Chef's cooking you'll understand why! Stayed in Room 1 this time, but preferred Room 2 which we had last time we stayed, however it was still a lovely room. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and was also excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending The George at Cavendish, and hope to visit again later in the year.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a couple of high steps to the bathroom which made the top of the door a bit low for comfo...

Stayed here first Friday in November on our way to Norfolk for the rest of the weekend. We had booked a £99 dinner/bed/breakfast deal for 2 which was amazing value.

The pub is very pretty - contemporarily furnished and clean and smart. Dropped our bags in our room which was small and cosy (no. 4) and went straight for a beer and enjoyed a long chat with the owner/manager. Having booked in for dinner, we changed and then it was back down to the lovely restaurant for a great meal - Scallops & terrine starters and then both of us had the fillet steak (wonderful) with dauphinoise potatoes. We added another course - the cheese to share - which was plenty!

Breakfast was enormous and very satisfying - choices of yoghurt with mixed berries, cereals, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and the full English really give a varied choice.

It really started our weekend off on a high staying here!

Room Tip: The bed in the room was very comfy - the only 'gripe' being the church bells which ring EVER...

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay, as we were attending a wedding in Alphaton. When booking, we were given our choice of rooms and was permitted to have an early check in. We arrived at the hotel, and was welcomed by a friendly member of staff, she showed us to our room. We had the blindsided room (Room 2) which had a surprising bed, sofa, dresser and wardrobe. Including was tea and coffee facilities. We were at the front of the hotel, so could see out into the village and our car below in the car park.
Before we left for the wedding, we had a drink in the bar, which had local drinks available. The bar was not overly priced. The hotel had arranged for our taxi.
Breakfast the next morning was peaceful and delicious. We were the only guests so enjoyed being served and waited on by the staff.

2nd stay in 6 weeks. We absolutely love this place. The beds are so comfortable, the food is the best and the staff are all so lovely, can't do enough for you. We have been coming here for a few years now and have never found anything to complain about. We always try to get room 1 as it's our favourite, but have stayed in the other rooms and they are lovely. Thank you Bonnie , Lewis and staff for keeping the standard so high and making us keep coming back!
