Four of us stayed at The George on 29th March and it was just fabulous. When we arrived the restaurant was really busy, they were catering for an anniversary, but despite that we received a really warm welcome. The staff are really nice.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious, as was the wine. The breakfast was lovely. Would definitely recommend this place, both to stay and eat.

My wife and I stayed at The George for one night to celebrate my 50th birthday. Right from our initial welcome to when we left the next day, the staff were delightful, natural and friendly, making the whole stay a pleasure. We had taken up their offer of £99 for dinner, bed & breakfast which was remarkable value given the quality of the food which is exceptional and faultless.

So I cannot recommend The George highly enough - Bonnie and her team are wonderful!

Chose The George based on the unanimously positive reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. The refurbishment of an ancient building has been done very sympathetically and the decor and furnishings are simple but tasteful.

The quality of the food was exceptional with some nice innovative touches and it was really pleasing to have a free choice of anything on the menu with no surcharges for the higher priced dishes. A nicely chosen wine list covers a range of price points, and the two real ales from the Nethergate brewery were in excellent condition (and with a first pull from the beer engine thrown away to ensure my first pint was nice and fresh).

Although it is billed as a restaurant with rooms the bar is open all day and one could easily stop off just for a drink and a snack and I am sure would receive the same warm welcome we enjoyed.

Locals obviously appreciate The George too - a lady who served us in the wool shop and cafe in Lavenham on the afternoon of arrival had dined there a few months previously and couldn't praise it highly enough. Try it - I doubt that you will be disappointed either.

Arrived yesterday afternoon for a night away with friends. Greeted really warmly and shown to our lovely rooms. I had a room overlooking the garden at the back. It was gorgeous and although not huge, had everything I needed. Really comfortable bed, powerful shower and lots of unusual touches. There was a basket outside the room with lots of stuff which you could help yourself to if you'd forgotten them like toothpaste, shampoo and even some dog food as they're a dog friendly hotel! We had a really tasty lunch and enjoyed a really gorgeous afternoon in the courtyard garden in the sunshine. We had an extremely delicious dinner that evening and slept really well. Sunday morning we were served a very good full English breakfast. All the time we were there the restaurant was very busy but the staff remained very friendly and took time to find out things we wanted to know, suggest places for us to go and share some banter. I'd thoroughly recommend The George at Cavendish and would willingly return for an extremely relaxed stay.

This is one of the few establishments local to us that always consistently delivers excellent food. The chefs take real care and attention with the ingredients with presentation and taste always top notch. The set menu delivers real value for money with a great range of dishes. The service is efficient and friendly to boot.

Our anniversary dinner with friends this week was absolutely lovely. As the saying goes " great food great friends, what more could you want". Fab!

Me and my partner had reason to stay locally due to undertaking some business in the area.
The George is located in a pretty village and it's little wonder it is popular because of the top quality food served up here. The owners and staff all have their finger firmly on the pulse when it comes to customer service and were extremely accommodating and friendly.
The building dates back to 16th century so a few creaky floorboards and head bruising alcoves to negotiate when staying here but that all adds to the charm of the place. Good parking, continual hot water, modern decor that sits well in it's older surroundings and a bar area that doesn't limit you to your bedroom is staying here.
Check this out - Real filter coffee in the rooms, that's a first and possibly a last so no skimping like you find at many other B&B's.
Would highly recommend The George and have it in my locker for when we return to the area.

I had occasion to stay here overnight on a last-minute basis on business (chose The George due to location, very reasonable accommodation cost and glowing reviews) and was very impressed. Cavendish is an attractive village and parking is available directly outside the building. The check-in was quick and friendly and I was shown to my room (Rm 1) within a couple of minutes of arrival. The beamed room was a good size, nicely decorated and well equipped with an ensuite bathroom up a couple of steps on a different level. I found the free wifi reception strong. Had a delicious meal in the charming restaurant which had a very decent choice of a la carte or set menu options . The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept exceptionally well and although I was the only resident, felt totally at ease. The hot water supply was constant in the evening and morning and the choice and quality at breakfast, far more than I could have expected for the price I paid. Would certainly return and am really pleased I chose to stay here - thank you to the staff at The George.
