Stayed at the Orwell Hotel Tuesday night in November with work. Had a pleasant room on the second floor. Good size bed, warm and pleasant.
Bar open for late drinks and no rush to get us off to bed.
Breakfast a good spread of locally produce, shame no muffins for eggs benidict as advertised on the menu, so full English did the job.
Very friend staff, on reception and at the bar.
Decent quality hotel in need of modernising, but would easily stay again or recommend.

Room Tip: Room 217, just beware no chain on bath plug, unable to pull out the plug to drain the water! Warm ro...

Not very good at writing reviews but thought i would give it a go, having read other reviews i was prepared for a half decent stay and was delighted at what was offered. Some reviews have suggested that the rooms could do with an update, for the modernist that could well be true but i like the old victorian feel you get at the moment. The food i received for my breakfast was without a doubt fantastic, would recommend this venue without a moments notice. For the discerning traveller, this isn,t the four seasons but neither does it try to be.
Warm and freindly hotel, give it a go and see what you think.
I am back there this year (Dec 2011)

I stayed at this hotel with 10 members of my family in November 2011 for a two night weekend bed and breakfast break. My room had recently been painted and was very cozy. Had two great nights of sleep in the comfy bed! The public rooms were very smart. We all enjoyed our stay and would return.

Our second visit and though this is an old fashioned hotel we were very pleased. Decor is a wee bit dour but clean, warm and in more than reasonable condition. The team obviously try hard though if I had to find fault, I would maybe suggest that the Reception girls try smiling a little more and greeting guests a little warmer. Not a great problem but would make the hotel a little friendlier.
We will revisit many more times as we enjoy Felixstowe.

A traditional UK town 3 star hotel, the Orwell offers a very warm welcome, extremely comfortable rooms and high calibre food. I was really impressed !! Public rooms were recently updated and very smart. My bedroom needed a bit of TLC but it was clean, warm and well-equipped: much better than the usual chain hotel room and the bed and pillows ensured a really good night's sleep.

Breakfast was lovely - good quality ingredients and well presented.

Dinner (£22.50 for 3 courses) was excellent. The food was imaginative and beautifully cooked. Serving staff were attentive and smiling.

Here's hoping that places like this survive in present economic conditions: every UK town should have an Orwell !! What a brilliant team the owner has ! Hope he appreciates them all.

wonderful old fashioned atmospheric hotel - excellent food - dinner especially! Great staff friendly and efficient and excellent value

Room a bit tired but spotless with everything you need and a great bed. Would heartily recommend this as an alternative to the normal sterile, soul less hotels around. Great value and perfect base to explore the wonderful area

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking garden/car park

This hotel is impressive on decor downstairs but sadly lacking in the bedrooms or our bedroom to be exact. The room was a twin en suite. The bedroom was run down and needed a lick of paint on the peeling wallpaper. The ensuite was not clean we had a bidet which was filthy dirty as was the bath. The shower can only be described as a dribble and on the second day our toilet ran out of water.
Food - Buffet breakfast was ok
served breakfast gives three choices one of which was eggs benedict. This dish was over cooked and dry.

the staff were very friendly but i got the impression they
were manning a sinking ship.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.
