It was an accident we booked into this particular Bell. Very nearby, there is another hotel of a similar name. And, when my girlfriend saw the reviews we were worried. Upon arrival, there was a car parking space next to the rear door. Checked in straight away by a pleasant enough woman. Upstairs the inn is littered with broken furniture and fading Monet prints. Having gone through a urine stinking corridor, we got to our room. It's true, it's tired, but,it's clean. The TV works, the kettle works, the mattress and bed was newish and every light bulb worked.
You even get a separate entrance with key pad lock if you want to avoid the pub's more colourful customers.
Breakfast is basic, but the cooked breakfast was to order and was reasonably good quality. The breakfast room was comfortable enough and the service is quick.
So, my girlfriend and I were left with the question. £32.50 each is cheap. We were close to the race course, we'd parked, we'd been fed. We weren't impressed, but then, we weren't disgusted. We've stayed in a range of hotels, this was one of the cheapest - some of the other reviewers need to remember that.
We wondered how much it was worth a night? We concluded £50 a room. If they simply painted all the walls white, binned the urine soaked carpet and ditched the faded Monet and installed an alarm clock and got full size towels you'd probably be happy to pay £65 to £70. If they upped the cold/continental part of the breakfast they could push £75.
