“Look forward to returning”
Reviewed 26 March 2013 via mobile

Booked two nights because our usual hotel was full, and having read some of these reviews I was rather worried. I needn't have been! I am writing this courtesy of their free WiFi, which gives a good clear signal. We have a lovely big room with a huge bed, bigger than Kingsize, and a large bathroom with a modern freestanding bath. Everything is spotlessly clean. The staff have been very friendly and helpful. The food might be pub grub, but it is properly cooked, and the vegetables are fresh - I had broccoli last night, which is easy to get wrong, but it was green & perfectly done. The breakfast was excellent, again properly cooked with real fried potatoes, not the horrible frozen hash browns that seem to have become part of an 'English breakfast' lately. And a cafetiere of ground coffee complemented it perfectly.
The grounds are perfect for dog walking, and indeed, this is a brilliant hotel if you are travelling with a mutt. The room is lovely and warm, having 2 heaters if needed. Tea and coffee provision in the room is generous.
We will make this our hotel of choice in Suffolk from now on.

Should be and has been in the past a very nice hotel. Visited it recently as part of a group booking. Three of us had food from a limited and basic menu which was tasty and well cooked, but the bar area, restaurant and function room were so cold and only one person was on duty to serve drinks and meals. it was so cold people were keeping their coats on. Not very welcoming.

Nice hotel, in beatuiful settings. The breakfast was generous and well presented and we were happy with our room. The room overlooked the back lawn of the hotel, which is pretty and has a nice view of the countryside.
Close to Bury, St Edmunds which is a nice family day out. Would definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Anything overlooking the back lawn.

Having booked in the very helpful member of staff struggled to locate my allocated room ; he said it was his second day on the job . The same staff member ran the evening bar where i spent some time relaxing with family and we all noted how pleasant a person he is...- James Power...an asset to a shabby hotel with it`s air of indifference. The next morning i went to the 8 o`clock breakfast and waited until 9.30 to be served a very mediocre plate served by the apologetic James . It seems the chef Terry was at least an hour late which i find utterly infuriating and totally unacceptable.

on arriving already found the hotel disspointing , my room was dated and tired but was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt . During the night i woke and had to use the loo only to find i was sharing with about a dozen or more wood lice. Staff were apologetic noting everything down . Bar prices very expensive , for a very poor warm bottle of white wine which was not put into a cooler and just plonked on the table we were charged £25 ..... On the positive breakfast wasnt to bad, order taken to fast then a long wait for it to arrive ... All in all i will not be returning to worlington hall .

As with many old properties that have been converted into hotels, this place has great potential but sadly falls a bit short of the mark.

Worlington itself is a gorgeous little village and from the outside the hotel looks pretty, albeit a little hard to spot at first glance (some signage on the main road would be helpful). On arriving at the hotel, there was no clear signage to where the reception area was, and when i found it, no one was there. a young girl did turn up, who gave broken information on things like where the room was, breakfast times (i had to go down and ask separately whether wi-fi was available, which i would have thought would have been a big plus for the hotel). However, her attitude was pleasant enough.

In terms of the room - i had a double, which was really spacious - although the decor was a bit weird - very 50's and dated, which was a huge contrast to the ultra modern bathroom! Americans might find the four poster bed, pelmets and random patterns 'quaint' - but not my taste really. The bed was also pretty uncomfortable - springs an dips all over it.

Breakfast was excellent - i had scrambled eggs on toast which was made fantastically by the chef (made properly with butter). A bit rich for me personally, but the qualty was great, and the chef very friendly.

One major down-side is the hotel lacked atmosphere - it felt a little bit like a retirement home and no buzz about the place. Some gentle, calming music, and a bit more of a management presence around the place would have made all the difference.

All in all, fine for an overnighter on a business trip - but not somewhere i would go for a relaxing break or indeed return too. Also, the £84 price tag I found on laterooms I think is a bit much for the quality I feel I got, especially when you can secure a room at somewhere like Malmaison for a few quid more.

I really hope the hotel management read and take notice of the tripadvisor feedback - the hotel has great potential. It just needs a bit of work in terms of ambience and general comfort and attraction.

Stayed here last week. Bizarre room decor. bathroom was ultra modern but the rest of the room was stuck in the 80's. ideally they should have refurb'ed each room as opposed to bits of rooms..fail on this front. The bed broke as soon as i sat on it (matress supports were thin wooden slats). Mentioned this to the staff who 'bodged' a repair job as opposed to a proper mend...fail on this front. There were only two other couples staying so moving us should not have proven difficult The ultimate fail was being charged £5.85 for a pint of cider....yes, thats almost 6 quid for a pint. i've never paid this much, not even in london.
Dinner menu was sparse and unappealing but the Walnut tree pub up the road was good, if pricey.
Breakfast was good though with the chef/waiter friendly and the fry up worth the wait. Good location with easy access to Thetford forest. Major plus was we could bring our dog with at no extra cost.
Overall i would not go back..

Room Tip: Alcohol is expensive so beware! Dogs allowed.
