We stopped here late last night, on arriving we asked 2 of the serving staff what time they finished serving food....neither of them knew and said they would find out...I picked up a menu and then we were apporached by a lady and we asked her who told us it was till 9.30...we had arrived at 8.50. She showed us to a table.

The pub was very sweet and then we tried to find something from the menu...thinking this would be serving PUB food....wrong!

A young girl came over with bread and asked if we would like some...we both looked at her as we had no plates to put this on...she then said she'll get us a plate!

The food was very fancy and overpriced...but we hadn't tried it at this point.

For starters I had a goats cheese tart and hubby had the potted shrimps... both nice and priced at 6.95 and 7.95.

For mains we both order fish cakes.... they arrived and we nearly fell off our chairs... 3 small fish cakes and some lettuce leaves... yes they were nice and priced 10.50 found this a bit overpriced...!

It does state on the menu about ordering if your going to the theatre at snape maltings and guessing they focus on this.

The staff are young and I over heard the young lady asking the couple on the next table if they would like dessert...they said yes...she then said shall I bring you the menu...well unless they are mindreaders I'm guessing they would need a menu...

Wouldn;t go here again, which is a shame as it was a nice looking pub!

We visited twice over the weekend and were impressed. The pub is light and airy and well managed. Attentive, well mannered staff serving great pub food and wine. Can't fault.

This pub, because of it's proximity to Snape Maltings, is in high demand. so, although we couldn't book for the evening we had lunch on Easter Friday. I had the mixed Orford fish platter which was amazing...followed by the home made banana parfait - delicious!! Would highly recommend...lots of parking, friendly staff, excellent menu! We did not stay here but I have heard good things about the accommodation.

We have tried most of the restaurants in the area, and have narrowed down our favourites - and the most favourite is the Crown at Snape. Perhaps a bit pricey, but beautiful home-produced food, cooked with imagination and care. Can't wait to go again.

There are only two rooms and we booked both of them for two nights before Christmas with the result we got reduced prices for booking 'the whole place!' The humour and hospitality at this traditional old inn made our stay a delight. Local bred people filled the bar and local bred produce filled our stomachs. Breakfast with home cured ham, eggs and home made bread set us up for our day's shopping at nearby Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings. No crowds, no crush and the chance to chill out before the festive chaos. A place to go at any time of the year, but for my money the real fire and cosy atmosphere makes this place a great place to hunker down in the winter.

We stumbled across this pub as we were organising a funeral in nearby Saxmundham and looking for a venue to hold a lunch after the event. There is a distinct lack of venues for this sort of thing in the immediate area, but as we stopped for lunch at the Crown Inn and got talking to the owner and she suggested we held it there, we decided to do so and were very pleased with the organisation, excellent service and quality of food. The dining room was booked for the occasion and tables arranged as we requested and a special menu printed in memory of my mother, so all in all, they were helpful and obliging and the luncheon went off very smoothly.

The problem with Snape is the snob value of the maltings, it breeds people that will pay any price for drink or food so as to be seen eating there in the area.
The Crown is a case of £3.70 a pint and £14 pound for a rabbit pie, yes the food is ok but just because they have the animals you are going to eat in the garden Pigs,Chicken etc. does not mean they can charge what they like. If you want a pint and a meal for 2 for around £40 be my guest but you pay.
