Description: The Blyth is a small hotel with restaurant on the road into Southwold. It has had a chequered past but has now found a good team who run a very sound operation.

We popped into The Blyth late on a Saturday evening. They found us a table. The food was good and the welcome warm.

Perhaps it is because the hotel has just been sold, or perhaps there is no chef, but I am beyond comprehending what would possess any kitchen to send out a plate described on the menu as belly of pork which comprised a tepid piece of fat pork, a chilled raw egg yolk, a handful of semi-cooked baby tomatoes and a matchstick of crackling that was virtually pure salt. No we did not complain, we drank our wine and left. Why waste your breath on those who must be totally ignorant? Avoid at all costs.

The food is always good and the owner is very friendly. I prefer the atmosphere in the bar area as it can be quite quiet in the restaurant. Very consistent which is always comforting .

Looked forward to a great meal for four to celebrate mum's 70th birthday. It was a quiet Monday evening but despite the restaurant not being busy three meals arrived cold and one was lukewarm. It also hadn't been explained that veg was extra so the plates were sparse . Staff apologetic but we couldn't wait to leave and eat elsewhere.

If breakfast is anything to go by this is a very good restaurant. The menu looks inviting but unfortunately we could't lunch or dine there. Next time definitely!
