Aftet a four hour drive to Southwold we checked into our B&B (see Northcliff) then went straight to The Lord Nelson. Perfect pints of Adnams. Wonderful plaoce and chips. A real English pub with great staff team and friendly customers. Could not be better.

We have just returned from a lovely week in Southwold, and twice we decided to eat at the lord Nelson, once for lunch and once again for dinner. The pub is very popular, and we understand why - good food, great atmosphere and charming staff. The crab sandwhiches we had for lunch were very tasty, and the lord Nelson make very good chips. Our eldest daughter, who can be quite picky about food loved the "bangers and mash", and had it both times we visited. The pub has a nice garden, and thats were we had our lunch. During lunch we noticed what looked like an amazing burger, so my wife decided that on our next visit she would have that, and she was not dissapointed. A large beef patty, well cooked between a lovely toasted brioche bun, with a generous amount of good quality cheese and crispy bacon and a tart, came with refreshing take on a coleslaw ( no mayo) and a pickle. I my self went for the fish and chips and didnt regreat a second, evan after tasting a bite of the burger. The fish was perfectly cooked, the batter amazing and the home made tartare sauce was among the best I have tasted. The chips, as mentioned, are also very good - large and perfectly crispy. The fish and chips is also available as a take-away option, but then without the great tartare sauce, to bad for our baby sitter who was looking after our youngest daughter! The pub is very popular, and since children have only acces to parts of the etsablishment, families planning on eating should come early to find seats, we noticed quite a few families leaving, slightly dissapointed. All in all, a great and friendly pub, we hope to come back soon!

You cannot beat the fish and chips at the 'Nellie'. I've been eating their f&c for many a year and have a visitor who comes all the way from Fiji and insists on having the 'Nellie 'fish and chips! The Adnams beer is the best kept in Southwold. Try it!

The Lord Nelson became our local whilst on a three night stay in the area. We had been warned that it would be busy especially as it was a Bank Holiday weekend, and that was indeed the case. On the first evening, despite not being able to get a table immediately, we were soon able to grab a seat and order a meal. The staff were extremely efficient and very friendly and the Cromer crab salads of good quality. We ate lunch here the next day and dinner the same evening. Again we couldn't fault the food or service. The Lord Nelson has a great atmosphere and part of its charm is the fact that it's always buzzing. Definitely worth a visit.

We were staying in a holiday flat just around the corner so The Lord Nelson was our local, .Great selection of food from sandwiches to main meals. I would recommend the scallops which were excellent. A fine selection of Adnams beers also. Well worth a visit.
