Owner description: If one picture on a postcard could sum up an idyllic English Seaside destination it would have to be Southwold Pier. Decked out across the sea in the picturesque coastal town of Southwold, this pillared walkway has a magnetic attraction and something for everyone to enjoy! There's so much to do a whole day can drift by while you walk the planks and explore this historic icon. Please note: Our opening times are weather permitting and therefore can change.

“On the Pier”
Reviewed 5 April 2013

Wow it was so different to anything I have ever experienced on a pier. It was absolutely freezing outside, but the shops café and very strange arcade made it worth the cold.

“Fantastic Water-feature”
Reviewed 4 April 2013

I have visited Southwold quite a few times over the last 30 years and decided to go there again this Easter. The pier has changed dramaticaly, and it was nice to see souvenier shops, craft shops, restaurant and coffee shop open, but the clock tower 'water feature' had me fascinated. It is all made out of old copper water cylinders, and every half hour, the bath tub at the top overflows into smaller buckets which overflow into a small reservior which feeds into 'Bill and Ben' whose trousers drop and they both piddle in the flower bed and tulips appear. Fantastic. It was windy and cold and I was frozen waiting for this to happen, but it was well worth it!

“Oh we do like to be beside the sea side”
Reviewed 2 April 2013

By many measures this is a tiny pier, but its size belies the quality of the maintenance and the selection of shops, eateries and entertainment. On this cold March day, the shelter of the shops was welcoming and allowed us to watch a storm develop to the North. Strong winds and snow flurries did little to distract from the views and relative isolation enjoyed at the end of the pier.

“End of the pier? I hope not!”
Reviewed 31 March 2013

This is a quirky place to pass an hour or two. It fits in very well with the image of Southwold. I hope the rumoured addition of a hotel does not detract from the seaside charm of this tourist attraction.

“Just what a pier should be”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

Southwold Pier is everything a pier should be but different from any other pier we have visited. This 'modern' pier has charm and elegance. It is clean and well maintained with small quality souvenir shops and excellent catering facilities. The performing water clock is a unique feature of the pier that fascinates all ages. The 'Under the Pier' show interactives are amusing and entertaining. The pier is great for a stroll in all weathers. There are excellent views of Southwold from the end of the pier. Don't miss the hundreds of commemorative brass plaques that are located on the pier. Each plaque tells a human story. There are plenty of seats on the pier - sun tan guaranteed if the sun is shining! It is fun to watch the fishermen at the end of the pier. Southwold Pier has 'class'. Well worth a visit if you appreciate fresh air and good food.
