“Great for families”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Close by to the pier, playground, skate park and mini-golf, and in front of the boating lake, an ideal place for families. Food is wholesome and appetizing, and served with a smile

“Amazing place just tucked away”
Reviewed 30 April 2014 via mobile

When you stand on the car park it doesn't look much but when you go down the lovely path with shrubs one side the lake the other the most tranquil little tea room awaits you. Go in and go to the back.... Amazing views. As for value for money i found this to be slightly cheaper then south wolds prices. There is even a toy cupboard for the kiddies which is a great +++. The staff were so welcoming and showed us the ducklings. Also all the wildlife around there with the reeds is amazing.... I would recommend you go just that bit further and you won't be disappointed. Also the owners said they are making a walk way along the reeds.. If you like nature and a stroll this is for you. My 4yr was given her own small cup & saucer and small tea pot which she was overjoyed with... Small touches that I feel southwold has forgotten.

“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We were staying nearby during the Easter break and loved the idea of the boats for our 7 year old son and 8 year old nephew. The boys were allowed to play for as long as they wanted while we sat on the verandah of the cafe and enjoyed sandwiches and tea whilst watching them. The staff were lovely and the owners were especially warm and friendly, what an exceptionally fantastic job they have done, i loved the bunting and even the blankets which had been thoughtfully provided should you feel chilly! i couldn't think of a more perfect way to relax, unwind and enjoy such a quintessentially british pastime..............afternoon tea, ice creams and a view of the beach huts and boating lake!

“Wonderful Scones! A great place to visit”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We went to the boating lake at Southwold for the fourth time this weekend. The weather wasn't brilliant so it was great to see they have now enclosed the area at the back which allows you to enjoy the surroundings, whatever the weather!

We all had cream tea with plain scones which we felt was good value (having lots of experience of other establishments). The scones were magnificent and nearly wouldn't fit on the plates and came with lovely jam and clotted cream, all decorated with fresh strawberries on a 3 tier cake stand. The tea was a really nice blend so we just couldn't of been happier! It is now our place of choice to have afternoon tea!

I have read some of the previous reviews which in a couple of cases I felt were unfair. The criticism of the lack of boats on the lake is not about the tea room...it is an issue with the silt in the lake which means if would be dangerous to use in parts. The toilets are just over the road and it really doesn't hurt to walk across to them......some people are just too hard to please!

I worked at the boating lake in southwold when I was a teenager in the 90's and this place has been totally transformed into a tranquil place to lose yourself with wonderful food and very friendly service!
