“Lovely 2 day break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

We have been coming to Southwold for over 30 years and have always wanted to stay at The Crown, so were delighted to have the opportunity to take up one of the mid week offers. It really came up to our expectations. The room was comfortable and beautifully furnished. Thanks for homemade treats! The food and service were, due to a large function in the newly refurbished Green Room, a little disappointing on the Thursday night, but more than made up for it on the Friday. Of course - the ale and wine were amazing.
Throughout our stay the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Thank you, and we hope to be back again.

This hotel is a real gem and the perfect place to stay for a little time away from home. In the centre of Southwold right on the high street this charming hotel is just minutes walk from the sea front. It is full of character and English charm. We stayed in a deluxe room on the dinner, bed and breakfast package. The room was a good size, very well equipped and very clean. The exposed beams and uneven floor made it seem even more charming. The food was of a very high standard in terms of flavour and presentation. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The lovely room and the quality of food served made this hotel exceptionally good value for money. The perfect place for an informal and relaxed weekend. We would highly recommend this very English hotel.

We spent New Year's Eve and the following evening at The Crown as we had done the year before, and it wasn't as good, most people had dressed down for the occasion, and it lacked the "Special Occasion" feel. The hotel is comfortable, but what it lacks is a residents lounge, you are either in the bar or in your room.

Room Tip: Not a hotel for those with mobility problems, the stairs are very steep.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your new years eve stay with us at The Crown. We have taken your feedback on board and will look into ways in which we can make this New Year's Eve feel a bit more special. I am also able to share some good news with you in that we have very recently refurbished the green room and now have a sofa and some comfy armchairs where you are able to sit and relax should you choose to visit us again.

Having stayed in The Crowns sister hotel The Swan several times & as a regular visitor to Southwold we decided to give the much publicised "Renovated" Crown a visit. Yes, the standard room (no superior available) we had was quite nice but the veritable rabbit warren of a layout made getting to/from it a chore. Dinner was OK but we had to send 1 starter & 1 dessert back. Breakfast took 45 minutes to arrive after ordering so this coupled with a "TOWIE" wedding party along with their raucous children running around the place (we were not advised there was a wedding party when booking) made it somewhat less than a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Wish I could

We came here under recommendation from friends and family. The rooms might look nice and the hotel oldy worldy but thats it.
The hotel has potential just wish they would do something and decide what it needs to be whether thats old, modern and make there mind up about the menu it could he fantastic but just using the wrong cuts

Last minute surprise break for partner back from a long trip back home.

Weather was glorious, if not bitterly cold.

Hotel is fantastic with our ropom (number 14) very quirky with exposed beams (some a little low!) in the roof on the top floor.

Very comfortable and a great bathroom.

Very freindly staff

Room Tip: Room 14! Very large and comfy.

We have just returned home from our New years stay at The Cown hotel in the centre southwold. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room (number 14) is one of the more superior rooms at the hotel (hence the £200+ a night price tag) it was very comfortable and furnished to a good standard. The room is on the top floor set in the eaves of the building, with exposed beams and quaint features (including cobwebs). Maybe not a good room for someone over 6 foot. A lovely veiw of the high street could be seen from our sash windows. We had our own en-suite toilet and cupboard, housing dressing gowns, hanging space, hairdryer and a safe. Out of the door, down the corridor, and down a few steps was our bathroom suite. It certainly had the wow factor!! Finished to a high standard and very clean, it was lovely to bathe in the roll top bath. (unsuitable for showering!) One negative was that the vinyl floor was very slippery when wet!
We dined in the hotel restaurant. (we booked ahead) we had canapés and a choice of a cosmopolitan or prosecco on arrival. The wine list was very extensive although not all bottles were stocked. The food was good, presented very well. I did ask for my beef to be served medium but was more blue. The waitress was very efficient in dealing with the problem but by the time my food came back my partners food was almost cold. (For what we paid, this was dissapointing)
The disco played music of all genres and was good fun!
*At 11.45 myself and my partner walked to the beach to watch the fireworks. (Nothing to do with the hotel)The fireworks were fantastic and drew in quite a crowd. A real must!!!
We had a very good nights sleep, the bed was huge and very comfortable. Being at the top, it was very quiet and we couldnt hear the other guests.
In the morning we went downstairs for breakfast. Not very good value in our opinion. The waitresses were flagging and not very efficiant.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay and have good memories of our stay at The Crown. The pricetag is a little excessive in comparison to where we have stayed in the past before but it wouldnt put us off staying again.
