“Excellent little hotel”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

This is the second time we've stayed here, and we'll be returning many times more, I hope. Both times, we've paid a bit more for a king-size room, and it's still been good value for money. The breakfasts are very good quality, and the restaurant food is excellent, with a good choice of beautifully cooked and presented meals - really useful if you've had a tiring day and can't face going out again for dinner. It's testament to the quality of the restaurant that the place is packed in the evening, so best to book a table in advance. Staff are unfailingly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable, there's a well-stocked tea tray, and the rooms we've been in have been clean and spacious. There was a bit of noise during our latest stay, from people leaving the place late at night, and the band that was playing for a Friday-night function could clearly be heard in our room on the top floor, but they finished at 11.30pm so not too much of a problem. We went to The Blyth, nearby, one night (not a very exciting menu), where there were only two other tables taken - back at the Randolph, the place was buzzing with every seat occupied. The owners deserve their success.

Room Tip: Opt for a king-size room if you want a bit extra space.

Have just spent 3 nights in twin room on special offer, which was exceptional value. All staff were pleasant and helpful. Very good food and service with choice of excellently cooked breakfasts to order, we only ate one evening meal here which was reasonably priced, very tasty and with generous portions.
Housekeeping should deal with the cobwebs (o.k high ceilings, but!) and dust balls in ceiling lampshades, and our room wasn't vacuumed during our stay!
Agree that t.v is very small and I would swop it's position with the hospitality tray in room 2!
A bonus was that we could get wifi in our room not just in the public area.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, but a bit further out of Southwold town centre than anticipated.

Dear Julia M

Thank you for taking the time to review The Randolph, I loved your headline and would rather be reviewed as Homely ANYDAY! The thought of being Ostentatiously stylish or deliberately chic reminds me of some of my competitors! We are proud of The Randolph and what we have created, we are a family run, 3 star hotel with a relaxed informal service culture and long may that continue!....

To deal with your other comments, we are thrilled that you enjoyed our breakfasts and meals at the hotel in general, I have passed your comments on to the team in the kitchen.

I am sorry that you spotted some high level dust in your room however and this has now been dealt with promptly by our housekeeping team. We are also investigating the upgrading of the size of the TV's in the rooms, as it appears that consumer demand is changing in this area.

We are pleased that you could receive our free WIFI in your room. A further upgrade is also forthcoming which should allow WIFI access in all our rooms in the very near future.

I am sorry that you thought we were further out of Southwold than we are. It takes just 4 minutes to drive in town or just a comfortable 15-20 minute walk if you wish. But we also are on a bus route and the Southwold Shuttle Route if you didn't want to do either and I apologise if this information wasn't given freely to you.

We very much hope that you will visit us again in the future and once again my sincere thanks for you taking the time to review us.

Best wishes

David

We have been visiting the Randolph now for some years and it has been consistently good. The room we have (2) is cosy and comfortable, the service is generally pleasant and efficient, the range and quality of drinks available is excellent and the food is very good.

Have just spent 3 nights at the Randolph whilst on business, and have booked in again for my next stay in the area.
Nice old building in good state of decoration. Twin room was large, and the ensuite bathroom very spacious, and had a good night's sleep each night. Rooms were clean, worst criticism I could make is that the TV in my room was a small one.
Very friendly welcome, and staff were helpful in accommodating my needs - one night I was eager to early, but had not booked a table. All tables were taken and there were several bookings due to arrive, but without prompting, and although very busy, they offered to serve my meal in my room, and did so very quickly.
From a value for money perspective, the Randolph must be approaching the best for the area....

Thank you also for your honest criticism of the TV's - we are looking to upgrade these to larger ones in the near future.

Staying close by, we used the bar here on several occasions. The seating was comfortable and reasonably well spaced which made access ok for the less able like my partner.

The choice of drinks was excellent, serving a good variety for most if not all customers. Like all bars that we tried, the Adnams Beers are terrific. The members of staff definitely know how to look after the beers as well as the clients.

On a day out with a friend we visited the Randolf for lunch. Well......yet again it was a fabulous!! It was hard to choose from the excellent menu as everything was so tempting - we were not disappointed with our choice !! The atmosphere along with the staff is warm and inviting and you are certainly made to feel very welcome indeed with no pressure to leave once you have finished dining. Well done to all..... the standard is just first rate!!

Stayed here as a base for a weekend away. Very friendly staff and very comfortable room. Nice bar/ lounge and fantastic cooked breakfast. Can see why it is No1. Good value and 20 minute walk to far end of Southwold. Will definitely return in future.
