Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Behind the walls of our Victorian building in the heart of Southwold sits one of the most modern breweries in the UK. Over the past few years the brewery has undergone a complete refurbishment with the replacement of the brewstream being the most recent update. This state-of-the-art installation recovers 100% of the heat and steam from each brew, 90% of which is used to reheat the next. This reduces the amount of gas needed during the brewing process by 30%.The new system can also brew larger batches in less time, making more efficient use of raw materials. It is also very efficient in water usage with a ratio of 3.2 pints of water to every pint of beer, compared to the industry average of 8. It even cleans itself and we're trying to programme it to make the tea too. But don't just take our word for it, book a tour, come and meet one of the brewery team and see it all for yourself. Please book ahead online for by calling our booking line to avoid disappointment.

“FAB couple of hours well spent.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Bob, our tour guide was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable and very funny. The tours only have approximately 12 people, so you don't feel crammed. However this is an hour of standing, walking and stairs, so not suitable for absolutely everyone.

The tasting lasted about half an hour and was introduced as 'drink as much as you like... but don't take that as a challenge!' Hahaha!

After this, we went back to the store and we were invited to also do a tasting of their vodkas and gin. Lovely stuff. They've won awards for their vodka, trouncing the likes of Grey Goose in blind tasting contests. Very impressive indeed.

You're given a voucher for a free bottle of beer to exchange at the end, and there's no obligation to buy anything else.

£12 is a very fair price, but remember to book in advance! Especially in the school holidays, you're unlikely to be able to roll up on the day and jump on a tour.

“£12 well spent”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

my freind and I got into big trouble last week. Told the family the tour was at 4pm . it actually started at 4.30pm so time for a couple of pints first without the children. The tour was fascinating and the tour guide knowledgable. We then tasted nearly everything the brewery brews in big glasses, went to the shop and tried the gin and the vodka, received our free bottles and drank them too. Went back to the beach hut and got into MASSIVE trouble. "where have you been....we have been waiting....blah blah blah" The drive home with my other half at the wheel soon sobered me up.....Scary!!! Next time the distillery tour !

“Educational and lots of tasting!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Was a good experience. Found out lots about the whole process and also got to taste lots of what they produce. We were also offered wine tasting back in the shop afterwards which we jumped at. You then get a discount voucher for the shop. Good value for money.

“Top brewery tour”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Spent a fascinating two hours on the Brewery tour. After visiting Southwold many a time I finally managed to go on the tour and did not disappoint. The booking process was very easy and the tour guide was informative and was entertaining the whole way around. At the end I was able to sample my favourite beers and even buy a few, they even do a tour of the distillery but that was a different tour. After the trip I bought a few beers to go home with.
