“Great place!!”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Spent 2 nights here with our cocker spaniel, everyone so friendly and accommodating towards us and our dog!! Breakfast was fab and the food & atmosphere in the pub was fantastic. Great location for walking and relaxing. Only tiny gripe is the slightly lumpy mattress - otherwise fabulous :-D will definitely go back!

The walk to Walberswick from Southwold took us just over an hour. When we got there we had to decide between the two pubs in this wonderful coastal village. We opted for the Bell Inn and it was certainly a great choice. Its like stepping in to a little piece of history when you walk through the doors. Uneven floor, massive roaring fires, lots of little nooks and crannies for you to sit in. The good news doesn't stop there either. The food was excellent, certainly one of the best pub meals we've ever had. I opted for the Chicken, ham and leek pie which comes highly recommended. The staff were friendly which only added to the charm of this place.

We have flown to London three times. Each time, we drive immediately to Walberswick and spend our first one or two nights at The Bell. It's simple, quiet. The perfect spot to recuperate from jet lag and to feel the English spirit...and maybe drink some of them too. The Fall is brisk in Walberswick. Dress warmly and take a morning walk in the fog.

As I remember, you can expect big lazy dogs on the pub floor. Amazing treacle and baked puddings. Luke warm ales. Servers with stained aprons and ruddy cheeks. Nooks filled with laughter and intriguing faces.

Upstairs the rooms are simple and the beams are low and can easily knock you out if you aren't attentive. The beds are comfortable and it feels like a more charming version of home. The town is silent.

It's been a few year since I've been there. It was earlier than Nov 2012. But I miss it and look forward to the next time I can be there.

In view of the lovely weather we decided on a last stop at the Bell and we weren't disappointed. The room was lovely. Quite small but beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The shower was again quite small but clean and modern with good quality toiletries. The real coffee and cafetiere in the room was a nice touch as well. We had our evening meal there which was really good and so was the breakfast the next morning. Excellent choice of full English, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon etc. Cereal and fresh fruit also available. Nothing much to add to the other good reviews. Really surprised at the two comments mentioning rudeness on the telephone. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful and I can't believe one of them would have acted like this. However, it is something that needs to be rectified and the person who did it knows who he is. In our experience though the service was excellent.

Room Tip: We had room 1 on the first floor. Apparently they do take dogs but only on the ground floor.

We've just had a perfect weekend at the Bell in Walberswick. We met up with 6 friends and treated the place as our own, sitting around in one of the 'snugs', chatting and having fun. The staff were helpful, friendly and relaxed.
The rooms were comfortable and exceptionally clean. The food in the restaurant was good and the breakfasts excellent.
Walberswick is such a lovely place to visit and we did some nice walks including getting the ferry and going over to Southwold. The pier there is great fun.

Room Tip: The family room is lovely.

I rang to try to book a room at this pub, the telephone was answered with an incredibly rude and blunt "We're busy serving lunch right now, call back later."...after which the 'phone was slammed down on me.

With a staff attitude like that this pub deserves to go out of business.

Room Tip: Avoid like the plague!

A great old, unspoilt pub with lots of charm and character. Get the ferry (a little fishing boat) over to Southwold, we had oysters on the quayside. The beach is long, part sand, part pebbles with small sandunes. Pub interior has lots of quirky rooms on different levels. Food really good with large portions, my bean soup was excellent. Beer is excellent. Breakfast excellent. Staff very friendly. Sorry to say that the bedroom was disappointing, the bed was not long enough for my just under 6 ft partner and the room could do with some attention, particularly the carpet which had several stains on it and the bathroom window which was rotting. Saying that we did like the choice of decor and would definitely go back again.
