“This is a very friendly Black Dog”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

We had lunch booked at The Anchor after our walk but as we passed The Black Dog deli we thought we would take a look.

The young man behind the counter gave us a friendly welcome and invited us into the small shop. It turned out he was one of the owners. The other was in the kitchen and was responsible for the delicious and tempting aromas filtering through to the shop. It was she who was making the quiches that were on display and in the short time we were in the shop met the needs of two taskeaway customers who were clearly regulars.

A third came in while we were examining the excellent range of cheeses in the cabinet and she ordered a quiche for collection later.

We ordered a couple of coffees while we made a selection and both owners gave us advice on our choices of local cheeses and told us of their passion to create their business.
We continued on our walk down to the harbour and after lunch and a pint of Adnams at the Anchor collected our purchases which we enjoyed at home later in the evening,

We shall certainly visit the Black Dog again, not only because thes two young entrepreneurs deserve to succeed but because we shall buy something for a pic-nic when the weather warrants it. Give them a look and buy some cheese or a quiche. We were impressed that when cutting our cheese selections they were cut exactly as we requested and not 'a little bit over, is that OK' as happens in so many delis. A truly honest business.

“Every neighbourhood should have a Black Dog deli”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

Staying in Walberswick over Easter we tried everything they offered from a wide range of cheeses many locals, breads (the treacle is very good), scotch eggs and heavenly cakes & so much more.
The bacon rolls are a wonderful start to the day.
The young couple who run it are delightful, service with a smile everytime, nothing is too much trouble.
I wish them every success, I just wish it was closer to home so I could use it every day.

“A Business that Deserves to Succeed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

My wife, who regularly visits The Black Dog, introduced me to this wonderful deli.the other day..
I bought a steak and ale pie, which I cooked at home ....it was absolutely delicious.
The shop is very well laid out and has a lot of tempting produce, which seems to be ether home made or locally sourced.
The shop is not very close to the beach, so many visitors to Walberswick might not come across it; but I can assure you that it's well worth seeking out.
I get the impression that the owners need more customers to help them recoup their investment and pay for a bit of advertising. So I'll definitely be going there in future; I hope you will too.
It a great example of a high quality, niche business that really deserves to succeed.

“An English Deli at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2014

We chanced upon this deli today on an relaxed circular walk from Southwold. What a find. Innovative sandwich choices such as beer and treacle cured bacon, excellent array of local cheeses, superb coffee, rare breed fresh eggs, a helpful supper menu suggestion. Mostly locally sourced we thought. What's not to like. Service impeccable by two really friendly knowledgable young people who we think were the owners. Well be back to grab a picnic and lounge in the sundunes this Summer. We understand it is only your second season and whilst you won't need luck - we did want to thank you for doing your bit to make good quality local produce accessible to all.

“Bona Fido”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2013 via mobile

We visited the Black Dog four times during a week's stay in Walberswick - including once for breakfast. The range of food and drink is limited (it is a small place) but all carefully chosen and of very high quality. The homemade houmous was the best we have ever eaten. The coffee, bacon rolls and croissants made for a great breakfast, served with a smile. It is lovely to see and support such genuine enthusiasm.
