We had lunch booked at The Anchor after our walk but as we passed The Black Dog deli we thought we would take a look.
The young man behind the counter gave us a friendly welcome and invited us into the small shop. It turned out he was one of the owners. The other was in the kitchen and was responsible for the delicious and tempting aromas filtering through to the shop. It was she who was making the quiches that were on display and in the short time we were in the shop met the needs of two taskeaway customers who were clearly regulars.
A third came in while we were examining the excellent range of cheeses in the cabinet and she ordered a quiche for collection later.
We ordered a couple of coffees while we made a selection and both owners gave us advice on our choices of local cheeses and told us of their passion to create their business.
We continued on our walk down to the harbour and after lunch and a pint of Adnams at the Anchor collected our purchases which we enjoyed at home later in the evening,
We shall certainly visit the Black Dog again, not only because thes two young entrepreneurs deserve to succeed but because we shall buy something for a pic-nic when the weather warrants it. Give them a look and buy some cheese or a quiche. We were impressed that when cutting our cheese selections they were cut exactly as we requested and not 'a little bit over, is that OK' as happens in so many delis. A truly honest business.
