Went for an evening meal. The best part of our evening tonight was the desert! The best desert I have ever tasted! We had apple meringue pie and what more can I say ... WOW. Incredibly light with so many flavours. I can not recommend it enough. I later found out the girl who made it is in her teens. She is going to go far.

Service varied - one let it down.

If you are thinking about going to the anchor; go. Make sure you leave room for desert!

Only had a meal here after a long cold walk along the beach from Southwold . We were met with a friendly smile and quickly found a table near the fire. Service was attentive without being intrusive . Any questions we had regarding food and wine were answered by the well informed staff. The only difficulty then was chossing what to have from the interesting menue . When it arrived the food more than met our expectations . All in all a delightful lunch. Will return as soon as we can.

We just returned from an excellent weekend break in Walberswick. Previously we have rented cottages but this time, limited to 2 nights, we tried the Anchor and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it - the service, rooms and food+drink.

We stayed in one of the chalet-style rooms in the garden and found it to be comfortable, spacious, with a tasteful and discreet style. We also had a nice view towards the beach huts and sea. The garden will be superb in spring and summer.

We ate our meals in the Anchor, all of which were excellent. There is real pride in providing an interesting and changing menu, with excellent fresh ingredients, many locally sourced. The wine and beer lists are extensive and well researched.

The staff were superb and knowledgable, taking real pleasure in providing personalised service.

Overall the whole experience is warm and friendly. Real thought has gone into the details to make this a high quality, unprententious and good value stay. Needless to say, we'll be back as often as possible!

As a regular visitor to Walberswick we have often wanted to stay here for a few nights. On impulse we booked a long weekend. Our room was delightful, large and tastefully furnished. The staff were friendly and helpful and the view from the room stunning. Our breakfast was tasty, with a good choice of hot food, cereals, jams etc. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday night, enjoying the usual high standard of food and wonderful choice of beer. The waiting staff were sweet and attentive, if a little eccentric, all in all it was a much needed break in ideal circumstances.
We had a room in the main building, the only down side was a slightly erratic hot water system and a chilly room on arrival. Ignore this and you will have the perfect break, especially in the quieter winter months. Vey reasonable rates too we thought. Thank you lovely Anchor, we will be back.

Room Tip: I'm keeping this a secret as we want it to be free when we go back!

Stayed here in August 2011 and was so impressed by the welcome we received, the delightful room in the main building and the excellent food and wine on offer.
The Anchor is ideally situated at the end of the village of Walberswick with easy acces to Southwold either by ferry or road. Wouldn't hesitate to make a return visit

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the main street

Our garden room was spacious, clean and modern like a holiday cottage/cabin. Ensuite facilities excellent though ours didn't have a bath. Shampoo and shower gel and soap but not conditioner available in the room.

The very best part was the table and chairs on your very own patio overlooking beautiful lawn and trees.

The location is amazingly beautiful and so close to the beach, the food excellent, service very friendly and accommodating.

A barn for private celebrations is available for large groups - we were 12. Bring your own music to play etc.

Such a relaxing and fun weekend. We will definitely be going again

Room Tip: Some cabins had shower and bath, others just a shower. Choose a garden room with table and chairs o...

When a group of hard-working (mostly), responsible (debatable) and fun-loving (unquestionable) friends arrange their eagerly awaited annual trip to get away from the pressure of busy lives and enjoy a weekend of long walks, fresh air and laughter, they expect great accommodation, quality food and and hospitable staff and pray for decent weather, especially in mid-October. Well, the gods did their bit. We had brilliant warm sunshine all weekend and The Anchor delivered in every respect.
We occupied the six garden rooms, all clean, spacious (beautiful big bed) and well-equiped. We enjoyed dinner in house both evenings, curry night in the main restaurant (absolutely delicious) and private occupation of the barn adjacent to the main house for a unique candlelit dinner on Saturday. This was a wonderful setting for a party of our size where we could play our own music, indulge in silly games and not be concerned about disturbing our fellow diners. Once again, the food was excellent, the staff impeccable and good fun. Luke particularly made us exceptionally welcome and tended effortlessly to our every need. Highly recommended. We will certainly be back......just don't tell the locals!
