We have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay at Claverton Country House Hotel. We bought a voucher on Groupon for our stay and and had dinner at the Hotel restaurant on the first night. We were more than pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food which we found to be of a higher quality than one of the highly recommended restaurants in the local area.
Our room was large, clean and cosy with a fairly priced mini bar and an en suite. The service was fantastic in this family owned Hotel which is situated in a beautiful setting.
Also well worth taking a country walk to local vineyard Carr Taylor which has some award winning English sparkling wine and a wine tasting experience.
Overall we are very satisfied customers.

Just visited on a groupon deal. Room was small but we didn't spend much time in it. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the champagne breakfast was amazing! Lots of choices and products were from local farms or businesses which you could definitely tell.
Easy to navigate to local town and even got a local taxi into battle. Restaurants were recommended in the room information and we tried one and it was excellent.

Would definitely stay here again but maybe upgrade to a bigger room. Would be really nice in the summer as there is a lovely garden out the back.

Great stay thank- you

We have just come back from a 2 night stay at Claverton Country House - it was a super break. We treated ourselves to the 4 poster room which was nicely furnished, the shower room was a bit on the small size but the shower itself was large. We were warmly greeted and Lorraine always has time to chat to us. Although all the rooms were booked not many people ate in - their loss as the food was tremendous. We ate in the lounge on the first night from the bistro menu but were the only ones in there, it was not a problem to us. On the second night we treated ourselves to the fine dining room menu and were not disappointed, well cooked and presented. Again it was quiet with only one other couple eating but again we were fine with this, often to be expected in January. The breakfast choice was excellent - the one disappointment was that we were offered a free glass of champagne with breakfast, unfortunately we had to decline as we were driving, it would have been great to have had it the night before. It would be lovely to go in the summer when you could make use of the garden but we had to be content to look out on it.

While the welcome was warm and the furnishing of a good quality, the room itself was 'compact' to say the least. The bed was partially in an alcove with very little access room on one side and the other side was difficult to get into because of the alcove and a small chest by the side of the bed. The bathroom was minuscule and at one end just the size of a single shower tray and the other end just enough room to sit without banging your knees!

The walls are very thin so you can hear noises from the adjoining rooms, our neighbour had quite a bad cough which lasted most of the night.

Although the address is Battle it is three miles outside the town, although you could see this from the map prior to booking.

On the good side, the breakfast was great, very well cooked and presented and the waitress charming. We did not eat in so cannot comment on the dinner menu.

Room Tip: Give the 'Compact Room' a miss!

Found Claverton House, near Batttle. This is a pleasant family run place. Started from a run down state and Lorraine and her husband had made a go of it. We had a nice room with Groupon voucher Champagne breakfast. It had a four poster bed. It overlooked a big waterlogged garden. Quite happy to recommend but nothing extraordinary.

My wife and I and our friends decided on the Claverton Country House for our Christmas dinner. We like to stay over, so we have a couple of days away – a long tradition with old friends.

Unfortunately, we were the only guests that Friday night, so it was rather quiet. However, we would not have got in the following day, because it was fully booked.

We had a splendid dinner. The Christmas menu had a good, well balanced choice and was reasonably priced. Everything was well cooked and nicely presented. If you want fine dining this is the place to come. Also, there is an extensive wine list, which, I’m pleased to say, included English wines.

The breakfast the following morning set us up for the day. There was an excellent choice of juices, yogurts, fruit and cereals followed by a wide choice of cooked food. Once again it was well cooked and nicely presented.

The Claverton is an old country house, as the name implies. It is situated in several acres, with a pleasant garden. The restaurant and lounge are very comfortable with a warm atmosphere. The bedroom my wife I stayed in was clean and very comfortable and had a large, well appointed en suite bathroom.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated with courtesy. The service was excellent and we were made to feel at home in this warm and friendly establishment.

I highly recommend the Claverton.

My wife and I stayed just for one night. Like several other reviewers, we were booked into a tour of the near-by Carr Taylor Vineyard.
Our room (first floor) was of a good size, with a large comfortable bed, a nice sofa, a decent-sized TV (all working well, which is more than you can say for many places) plus tea-making facilities and a mini-bar. The ensuite was not enormous, but there was plenty of hot water and the walk-in shower was good. We felt that a curtain or blind over the bathroom window would be a comforting addition, but no other real worries. I am sure the cracked basin is on someone's "to do" list.
The reception and waiting staff were unfailingly friendly and polite and the Sunday morning breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty.
Wi-fi is available (free) in some areas but wouldn't work in our bedroom - but it was only one night so not a big deal.
Overall, very good.
