“A great night”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

Its been quite a while since we last stayed here but delighted that everything was as good as before. In fact we had one the best and most memorable nights ever, the roast dinner was really good, and there was very pleasant atmoshere within the hotel itself.
We had a nice room in a quiet location which enabled to us to have a good nights sleep. Our trip was completed by a full english breakfast which really hit the spot and we then made our way home very happy indeed.
I dont write many reviews on this site, but when something exceeds my expectations I only think its right to give this place a mention.
We will be back.

This is an extract from an email sent to me by one of our party of six. "Having spoken to the hotel again this evening, I think we could be in for an interesting weekend. They are obviously very keen to be helpful, and to make sure that our weekend is not affected too much by their masked ball. Regarding dinner, they are now suggesting that we ask to speak to Amy when we check in and she will bring the chef over to discuss meal arrangements and our preferences."

Arrived at 11.30 am, no heating on, reception looked like a run down railway booking hall. Neither Amy, the chef or our meal arrangements [A 'special' menu] ever appeared except that on arrival we were told we would be dining in the conservatory, which looked quite pleasant. Within half an hour the table, etc. had been removed and we were told we would be eating on our own in the main dining, an area normally seating about 40 people. We then decided to eat elsewhere [The Powder Mills, which was absolutely first class]. On returning to the hotel we went to the bar where I asked for, in turn, a drambuie, a cointreau or a grand marnier - none of these was available. Our room was adequate, the bed was comfortable but as your reviewer Darren A noted the whole hotel needs some serious refurbishment. The breakfast was pretty abysmal, poor selection of cereals, some sad looking apples and pears [hard as a rock], luke-warm baked beans, fried eggs swimming in grease and chewy mushrooms. Again like Darren A this is the poorest quality hotel I've visited in a very long time and definitely one to be avoided.

Room Tip: Don't go near the place!

We visited this hotel last week to arrange a 40th wedding party including staying overnight. The initial reaction on entering the grounds that was that we had taken the wrong entrance as it looked more like a building site than a hotel. There were railway sleepers as a temporary bridge and the road conditions very poor. There were dead plants in pots all around and gave a general poor impression.

On arrival at reception there was nobody to greet us so we had to ring a bell and wait for somebody. They had presumably had a wedding recently as the decorations were still up. We asked to see the bridal suite which we were duly shown. This was very disappointing with the curtain pole hanging off the wall. The windows were filthy and looked like they had not been cleaned all winter. The only saving grace was the bathroom which had a nice whirlpool bath.

The whole hotel needs refurbishment which while an old building can be characterful it can also look shabby. At £200 per night this was definitely not worth the money so we did not book..

I had also e.mailed the hotel enquiring about a wedding this July for 40 people including wedding breakfast, ceremony and bar facilities. Unfortunately I received the following reply so had to find another venue.

"Please see attached information unfortunately we would not be able to offer you exact date as this is a prime wedding day in the summer if you were flexible with the date then I am sure we could accommodate you please let me know if I can of any more assistance

Many Kind Regards

Steve"

This is one of the poorest quality hotels I have visited in a long time (see my other reviews) and definitely will not be returning.

Room Tip: Avoid bridal suite

We chose this hotel at the last minute, rather than staying in Hastings and found it to be a lovely spot where you can enjoy the countryside. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room had very comfortable bedding and amentities. Very good value for money. We would recommend this hotel if staying anywhere in the Battle/Hastings area.

Spent a wonderful couple of hours, enjoying a delicious afternoon tea beside an inviting log fire. Freshly made sandwiches and scones with cream &/or butter and jam and as much tea/coffee as we required.
The hosts were warm, chatty, friendly and very attentive, checking whether we needed anything more; but also left us in peace to enjoy our tea.
A thoroughly relaxing experience surrounded by beautiful countryside.

We had a great evening at Leeford Place for my mums 50th birthday party. Food (ploughmans buffet) went down very well and was lovely. Friendly service throughout booking and on the day. Rooms were lovely, especially the bridal suite and the breakfast was also very nice. Beautiful room decorations by Karen Austin decorations too. Highly recommended.

We made a trip for cream teas to celebrate a 90th birthday, We experienced a very warm welcome, attentive service, and excellent cream teas, A lovely quiet setting in the Sussex countryside just one mile off the A21 and about one mile from Battle,

Comfortable and a warm open fire with great views of the country garden,

In fact the excellent experience started with the friendly telephone manner when we made our booking.

Our first visit and certainly not our last.
