There is a changing display of installations in the rooftop foyer. Doing Looking Working Performing (DLWP) opens Saturday 18 June in parallel to exhibition in Gallery 2. Starting with an eight hour improvised installation using sound and objects by two artists. The resulting installation will be open until 31 July. “Beautiful building and setting..”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

The building is of great architectural merit and the setting is stunning ( almost all year round ! ).
It houses interesting ( occasionally ) art from time to time. The shop is of great merit.. If you like art ( contemporary ). And does have some unique gift ideas.
There is a cafe/ restaurant. Great views out to sea.. If you can get on the terrace! Which is popular ..
The theatre/ cinema puts on a few good acts/ screenings ... From time to time. Depends what you like?!

“Always lovely ”
Reviewed 11 August 2014 via mobile

A lovely example of art deco (1935), sweeping staircase leading to a cafe and restaurant. Lovely to have a coffee over looking the sea, sit outside if not windy or raining. The meals in the restaurant are good but you may have to waitvif you have not booked. Always something to see for free in the galleries. Look on line for events music, drama etc. These have usually a reasonable entrance charge.

“Superb evening”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

Booked tickets to watch Eddie Izzard perform his new show Force Majeure al fresco on the terrace at the De La Warr. It was a lovely warm evening and the terrace was completely full with people sat on the ground with cushions and blankets. We had tickets for the balcony which had a perfect view not only of the show but as it got dark of the moon shining across the sea.

Only food or alcohol purchased at the event was permitted and staff were randomly checking bags at the door. There was a £10 BBQ on offer which was well worth the wait of the rather long queue. Found the event to be very well organised for the such a large audience (guessing there were around 1000) however people on the terrace may disagree as there were very long queues for the bars and I imagine toilets too, whereas upstairs no queues at all.

All the staff were very helpful and smiley and it was a great evening. Eddie Izzard was very funny and looked super cool in his high black boots!

“Waste of money”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Think so much more could have been done with this beautiful building, why couldn't we have had a cinema built here instead of the ridiculous 'art' I cannot believe they call some of these awful pieces on display art. It is such a beautiful building in a beautiful spot just a pity more wasn't done with it.

“Fantastically Unique Venue”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 via mobile

I visited this venue with friends for a gig in July when the weather was 28 degrees and the sky gloriously blue.

When the weather was this great, the balcony overlooking the beach was a terrific place for a drink with friends.

The auditorium itself is great. I was sat to the side in the 3rd row and it was still a great viewing position.

The only drawback in the lovely weather was the auditorium hears up very quickly and it was a bit of a sweat box. Hey ho, rock n roll! I'd definitely visit again though. Great place.
